Colchester Memories is an evocative collection of reminiscences recording life in Colchester during the early to mid-twentieth century. The memories have been transcribed from recorded interviews and appear here in the contributors' own words. Various aspects of life are featured, from childhood memories and schooldays to family life, work, transport, wartime and leisure. Some of the earliest memories describe the town in the late Victorian period and the Edwardian age that followed. Recollections include travelling in horse-drawn carriages and trams, and living in an age before the invention of television and other trappings of modern life. The book will certainly appeal to those who know Colchester and will offer a nostalgic glance back to how life was lived in the past. It will prove to be an intriguing and valuable source of information for years to come.
Memories - Volume 1 has taken a lifetime to write. The first Volume consists of the personal element. Volume I, Stories for my Grandchildren, contains recollections and the history of our family, my life, my wife's life, and our life together.
This volume is really the autobiography of the technological advances of the sixty five years of the author's professional life. He was fortunate in always having the right associates, being part of the right team, being in the right place at the right time, and in doing the right thing. Much of that, of course, is luck. On the other hand, he takes full credit for sensing an opportunity, defining a problem, and then solving it. When a door opened before him, he always walked through it. The unknown on the other side always intrigued him. Making a lot of money was never a priority, but helping people and finding the answer to complex puzzles were the priorities. But, his family life took priority at all times over his professional life. He never found family life to be a burden, but rather, the most important part of his entire life - personal and professional. It was important to him to do the best he could at all times. His drive came from seeing the manner in which his father lived his life and the lessons his father taught him and his brother. They were guided in their lives by their father's character, wisdom and love.
In this Volume of my Memories, called "Scientist and Writer", the author bared his soul in a sense, telling of his work as a rocket scientist, and his work as a writer. This volume is also about life and death, about friendships over his lifetime, and about what he learned from others over more than eight and a half decades of solid living. He hopes that you find these descriptions as fascinating as he found them, while living them.
Can one simple memory get Jenn and Sean out of a mess they find themselves in? Or will someone suffer severely or possibly die to keep a deeply buried secret hidden? Jenn Samos lived a quiet and simple life. Growing up loved and sheltered by her family and friends, she knew nothing of the secrets, lies, and betrayals being kept from her. She was deeply in love with her best friend, the man she hoped would be her forever. One little argument, and he was gone. She never understood why. Now, three years later, he's back with a vengeance. With his return, the world she lives in completely changes. Everything she thought she knew was a lie. Sean wants her to remember. He needs her to remember. But Jenn doesn't understand. Newly reunited and stronger than ever, can their love be enough to fight to have the future they both have ever wanted?
