Presents a new multidisciplinary perspective on portraiture in the era of post-digital media As technological practices of the portrait have proliferated across the media ecosystem in recent years, this canonical genre of identity and representation has provoked a new wave of scholarly attention and artistic experimentation. This collection of essays explores the stakes of that seemingly anachronistic comeback. It reframes portraiture as a set of cultural techniques for the dynamic performance of subjects entangled in specific medial configurations. Tracking the portrait across a wide range of media - literature, drawings, paintings, grave stelae, films, gallery installations, contemporary music videos, deep fakes, social media, video games and immersive VR interfaces - the contributors interrogate and transform persistent metaphysical and anthropocentric assumptions inherited from traditional notions of portraiture. Abraham Geil is Senior Lecturer in the Media Studies Department at the University of Amsterdam. Tomás Jirsa is Associate Professor of Literary Studies in the Department of Theatre and Film Studies at Palacký University Olomouc.

Dare experiments! The book documents the teaching philosophy developed at the chair of experimental design by Frank Stepper and his team at the University of Kassel. The approach places an emphasis on fostering and developing aesthetic and formal imagination through experimentation. Thinking the "impossible" helps to formulate architectural concepts that progress beyond predictable causalities and functional constraints. For the emergence of innovative designs and novel construction typologies analogue models are augmented with computational strategies and digital fabrication methods. 20 Years of teaching Experimental Architecture, from introductory to thesis level projects Experimental videos with QR code links With contributions by Hitoshi Abe, Marie Therese Harnancourt-Fuchs, Steffanie Hennecke and others

On the occasion of its 60-year anniversary, CIMAM, the International Committee for Museums and Collections of Modern Art, its directors, and curators publish Museums from the Inside. From Suzanne Pagé and Rudi Fuchs, to David Elliott, Toshio Hara, Maria de Corral, Ken Lum to Manolo Borja-Villel and Patricia Phelps de Cisneros, this publication contains more than twenty interviews giving an insider's look at the 60 years in which modern art changed to post-modern art, and the term contemporary art, in turn, began to look almost obsolete.Following a historical introduction, looking back at fierce debates and controversies, a selection of important texts written since 2005 on decolonization, on Arte Útil, and on indigenous art gives insight into more recent fields of research.

The general public's image of Mondrian is of a serious man in a suit and tie with a reserved, rather aloof look. It is the same group of some ten photographs that shaped this image over time, although there are around 400 known photographs of the artist and his studios that provide a far more balanced and livelier image of Mondrian. This gorgeous book is not a biography, but rather a visual and emotional reference work for anyone who wants to immerse themselves in the world of this extraordinarily modern artist. The studios in Amsterdam, Paris, and New York are works of art themselves, as fascinating as the guests in these rooms. There are snapshots showing his private life, taken during journeys or visits, photographs of vernissages and dinners as well as formal portraits that he uses to promote the image of a serious, uncompromising artist.Detailed captions and richly illustrated essays on the significance of photography in the context of Mondrian's work make this book an extraordinary document of his time.PIET MONDRIAN (1872-1944) was one of the pioneers of abstract art. Hailing from a strict Calvinist family, the artist became famous for his compositions of black lines and rectangular fields in primary colors, but his early work was influenced by 19th century Dutch landscape painting.

Chisinau, today the capital and largest city of the Republic of Moldova, has undergone tumultuous changes under the successive political regimes that marked the twentieth century. Once part of the territory seized by the Russian Empire, it was integrated into the Romanian Kingdom during the interwar period, before being annexed by the USSR, like all of Bessarabia, and radically transformed into a socialist city. This guide focuses on the latter period. The distinct urbanistic and architectural tendencies after the Second World War are reflected in the five segments of the book: the Stalinist Empire, Soviet Modernism, Postmodernism, Soviet Brutalism, and the Industrial City. Each reflects the essential Soviet mandate to build not only a new city, but also a new society. In addition to photographic documentation and critical analysis of socialist architecture, the guide also includes essays on Chisinau's development between 1945 and 1989, devoted among other things to the city's cinemas and life in 'microraions'.

It's All One Song brings together architectural photographs by Italian photographer Marco Zanta taken during his travels through Europe, the USA, Asia and Africa over the course of the last decades. In a seemingly random sequence, the images jump from continent to continent, from interior to exterior spaces, from era to era, from postmodernism to dilapidated buildings and back again to urban megalomania made out of concrete, steel and glass. In the constantly changing rhythm of images merging subtly into one another, transnational and transcultural motifs, themes, and urban topographies are revealed page after page. In this "song" that Zanta invokes, the cities depicted merge into a single stream of consciousness, a global space that ranges from promising utopia to late capitalist nightmare.Marco Zanta (*1962) is one of Italy's best-known architectural photographers. Since the 1980s he has been exploring how urban and industrial space can be depicted photographically. In addition he has also worked for renowned architectural firms such as John Pawson Studio, Afra e Tobia Scarpa and Tadao Ando. Zanta has participated in several editions of the Venice Biennale. His works have been exhibited institutionally worldwide and are represented in numerous public and private collections.

Dada magazines made Dada what it was: diverse, non-hierarchical, transnational, and defiant of the most fundamental artistic conventions. This book, the first of its kind to critically examine the place of Dada periodicals within the art movement, redefines the story of Dada by demonstrating the centrality of these graphically inventive, provocative periodicals: Dada, New York Dada, Dada Jok, and dozens more that began crossing enemy lines during World War I. Including magazines from the well-known Dada cities of New York and Paris, as well as the lesser-known cities of Zagreb and Bucharest, the book reveals that Dada continued to inspire art journals well into the 1920s. Anchored in close material analysis within a historical and theoretical framework, Dada Magazines models a novel, multifaceted methodology for assessing many kinds of periodicals. The book traces how the Dadaists‿Marcel Duchamp, Tristan Tzara, Dragan Aleksic, Hannah Höch, and many others‿compiled, printed, distributed, and exchanged these publications. At the same time, it recognizes the journals as active agents that engendered the Dada network, and its thematic, chronological structure captures the constant exchanges that took place in this network. With in-depth scrutiny of these magazines‿and 1970s “Dadazinesâ€? inspired by them‿Dada Magazines is a vital source in the histories of art and design, periodical studies, and modernist studies.

The urban morphology investigates settlement and urban forms. These do not change overnight, but in a process that follows certain principles. There is hardly anything more complex and contradictory than a city. Precisely because of this complexity, there is little agreement on definitions and procedural methods. This applies in particular to urban planning, which is not only concerned with analysis, but also with the design and transformation of cities. A variety of different urban morphological approaches exist today. The authors from the areas of research and practice investigate the relevance of the morphological perspective in the field of contemporary urban landscapes. They link historical roots and current approaches and explain the relationship between analysis and design.

    197,95 kr.
