Comedies of Aristophanes (particularly Knights), tragedies of Euripides (particularly Iphigenia in Aulis), and historical biographies of Xenophon (particularly Anabasis and Cyropaedia) depict demagogues, or characters exhibiting demagogic characteristics, using a style of outreach to members of neglected classes that involved provoking feelings of friendship with individuals in these classes, whether the demagogues and individual supporters actually interacted closely or not. These leaders employed techniques, such as propinquity, homophily, and transitivity, that both contemporary sociologists (and, in some cases, Aristotle) recognize as effective for such purposes. Particular attention is paid to discrepancies in Aristophanes' Knights between how the demagogue Cleon is hyperbolically portrayed (as a pederastic lover of the Athenian people) and how his language and actions make him out - as a friend of theirs, as he likely portrayed himself"--
This paper is a study devoted to the expression of impersonality in Spanish and French. The main objective is to detect differences between the two languages when expressing impersonality. Not all the possible linguistic resources for expressing impersonality in both languages have been treated, but the following constructions have been dealt with: the periphrastic passive, the reflexive passive, impersonals with se and other phenomena relevant to the topic. In French, only the voix passive, the pronominal impersonnel and the pronoun on have been analyzed. After the presentation of all the constructions, a comparison between the two languages has been made. The practical part consists of the analysis of a corpus of 120 collected abstracts, 61 of which are in French and 59 in Spanish. The analysis has been carried out on the basis of different guidelines, but the main objective will be to verify the hypotheses put forward in the comparative part.

Mit diesem Ansatz wird zugleich die Definition der Kategorie "Polis" am Beispiel Hermupolis aus einer unkonventionellen Perspektive betrachtet.

No in- or out-of-print book has the same goals, content, wide range, and scholarly approach as the present study. Whether intentionally or unintentionally, previously published books have neglected ancient Graeco-Roman texts that either cause horror or may be said to belong to the horror genre. This may partly be the result of the low esteem in which any text that did not fit neatly into one of the major and traditional literary genres was held by most scholars - particularly apparent with regard to texts that dealt with the supernatural or the occult, which were often relegated to specialists in ancient religions, rituals or beliefs.
