This book discusses the Indian economic crisis and brings out what went wrong and the correction necessary for getting the economy back to high growth trajectory, leading to economic transformation. To do so, the book covers trends in performance of Indian economy since the Global Financial Crisis to the COVID-19 effect, bringing out factors that have determined the same. The book questions the approach to macroeconomic policy of both the RBI and the government and brings out what it takes for macroeconomic policy to be supportive of high growth. It contains revealing contrasts with East Asia and China, although India has the same potential to grow with an expansion of manufacturing. Overall, it argues that macroeconomic policies (as much as structural, industrial, and trade policies) have been deficient and even good initiatives on the industrial policy and trade flounder for the lack of a strategic approach to macroeconomics. The book highlights the special opportunities present in an emerging economy with vast under and utilised labour and the macroeconomic policy initiatives that can take advantage of this key feature. It covers the macroeconomic data on growth using multiple indicators, then the external shocks and the internal policy measures/responses; besides, GVA/GDP, credit, exports, external transactions, interest and policy rates, yields, exchange rates, money, capital flows, indices of industrial sector, price indices and inflation, government expenditures, tax rates, fiscal deficits, market uncertainty measures to present a holistic picture of the economy and the shocks and policy actions that have followed. The book uses an innovative method of presentation and the consistency of the trends/stances of both monetary and fiscal policy using these large number of variables. It discusses the debate on overestimation of GDP/GVA growth estimates over the years from 2011-12 to about 2016-17 comprehensively. There is special coverage of GST with a comparison with China. Coverage also includes performance since the COVID-19 crisis again using a large number of indicators and an explanation for the same in terms of the limitations of the government's initiatives to counteract. The book is a quick and ready reference of what has happened in macroeconomic terms to those interested in the relevant facts. It is of interest to international economists, policy analysts, and investors whose need to understand that the Indian economy in macroeconomic terms and in terms of the stances and penchant of the government and the RBI is of value.

This Element investigates the relationship between the narcotics industry and politics and assesses how it influences domestic political dynamics, including economic development prospects in Latin America. It argues that links between criminal organizations, politicians, and state agents give rise to criminal politics (i.e., the interrelated activity of politicians, organized crime actors, and state agents in pursuing their respective agendas and goals). Criminal politics is upending how countries function politically and, consequently, impacting the prospects and nature of their social and economic development. The Element claims that diverse manifestations of criminal politics arise depending on how different phases of drug-trafficking activity (e.g., production, trafficking, and money laundering) interact with countries' distinct politico-institutional endowments. The argument is probed through the systematic examination of four cases that have received scant attention in the specialized literature: Chile,Paraguay, Peru, and Uruguay.

Attaining the 2030 Sustainable Development Goal of Responsible Consumption and Production focuses on Sustainable Development Goal number twelve (SDG#12): escaping the trap of excessive output and overconsumption. Examining family businesses in Germany, Ireland, and the United Kingdom, each case study presents a unique perspective from their respective country, analysing how SDG#12 reconsiders the unsustainable patterns of consumption and production that threaten both human and planetary wellbeing. The case studies presented generate insights and key takeaways into the role of family businesses in sustaining the livelihoods of current and future generations. The United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are 17 Goals pledged by 193 nations in 2015 that would help engender an improved, fairer, and more sustainable world - one in which 'no one is left behind'. The SDGs are a call to action, to develop innovative solutions to the most complex, societal, and environmental global challenges. In Family Businesses on a Mission, series editors Naomi Birdthistle and Rob Hales bring together international case studies to illustrate how family businesses can attain the UN 2030 SDGs. Accessible to those working in the field beyond academia - such as family business practitioners, family business owners, government and policymakers, members of NGOs, business associations, and philanthropic centres - this book series appeals equally to those with a general interest in entrepreneurship and business.

In the wine industry, sustainability is an extremely important issue for two main reasons: Firstly, the industry faces serious threats as a consequence of climate change, as well as water and energy scarcity. Secondly, proper sustainable management of wineries can mean obtaining a competitive advantage by allowing them to increase market share and organizational innovation processes. In this sense, previous work has shown that customers tend to select wines that have been developed following sustainable practices, despite not knowing what this means in practice. The Handbook of Research on Sustainability Challenges in the Wine Industry serves as a guide for study, reflection, and critique to understand sustainability in the wine industry in its triple aspect (economic, social, and environmental). The book sheds light on the new trends and challenges of the wine industry, making it a must-read for academicians and managers who want to deepen their knowledge of the wine industry as well as its link with sustainability. Covering key topics such as wine tourism, green innovation, and consumer behavior, this major reference work is ideal for industry professionals, business owners, managers, entrepreneurs, researchers, scholars, academicians, practitioners, instructors, and students.
