Akut psykiatri giver en oversigt over et stort antal psykiske lidelser, der kort beskrives med symptomer, årsager, forekomst og forløb. For hver sygdom angiver bogen en vejledning i akut diagnostik, akut behandling og visitation. Bogen beskriver ligeledes vurderingen og behandlingen af specielle akutte tilstande i psykiatrien, såsom selvmordsadfærd, aggressiv adfærd, abstinenstilstande, akut psykotisk uro og psykiske symptomer ved medicinske og neurologiske sygdomme. Den nødvendige viden om den neurobiologiske og psykologiske baggrund for akutte psykiske lidelser og tilstande er kort anført. Denne 3. udgave er gennemrevideret og tilpasset de nyeste behandlingsprincipper. Bogen er opdateret med de nye lovregler om tvang i psykiatrien m.v. Akut psykiatri giver talrige informationer og er velegnet til hurtige opslag. Bogen er særdeles nyttig for enhver læge, som får kontakt med patienter med akutte psykiske lidelser, og denne nye udgave vil også, som den tidligere udgave, kunne anvendes af lægestuderende under deres klinikophold, såvel som af sygeplejersker.

Borderline beskriver en alvorlig forstyrrelse af personligheden. Det er en diagnose, der har været i kraftig vækst den sidste generations tid, formentlig som en konsekvens af de senmoderne samfunds uhensigtsmæssige og unaturlige livsformer. Ole Stjernholm er psykolog og terapeut og har i en lang årrække arbejdet med borderlineforstyrrede. For overhovedet at kunne påtage sig arbejdet med denne gruppe patienter, må man, skriver Stjernholm, besidde en krigers tålmodighed og samtidig være indstillet på at arbejdet er udsigtsløst, med mindre der etableres en tæt relation, nærmest en kærlighedsrelation mellem patient og terapeut/psykolog. Målet med behandlingen er at genetablere muligheden for et neutralt nærvær og for at give den borderlineforstyrrede mulighed for at føle en eksistensberettigelse, som ikke tidligere har været mulig. Bogen henvender sig især til de faggrupper, som har med borderlineforstyrrede patienter at gøre: læger, psykologer, familieterapeuter, men også til sygeplejersker, socialrådgivere, plejere m.fl. Forlaget udgav i 2000 Jytte Back Grønkjærs bog om samme emne, Tabt, fortabt, fundet igen, men på et jungiansk grundlag.
