Indre Mission, grundtvigianisme og mindre kirkelige retninger er på landsplan ofte beskrevet, men der findes kun få fremstillinger af, hvordan foreningerne arbejdede i lokal­samfundet. På grundlag af kildemateriale i Løgumkloster Lokalarkiv, i Rigsarkivet og ikke mindst i talrige utrykte manuskripter, breve og lomme- og dagbøger fra byens bankdirektør L.C.C. Lausten (1903-1981), den ledende kraft i byens Indre Mission og KFUM, har det været muligt at få et indblik i dette arbejde ud fra missionshuset fra begyndelsen i 1900 og i det meste af det 20. århundrede. Kristendomsopfattelsen, de mange bibelkredse, opbyggelige møde, højtideligheder, L.C.C. Laustens virke som lægprædikant i landsdelen beskrives, det samme gælder medlemmernes antal, økonomien, holdningen til det nationale spørgsmål og til Luthersk Missionsforening, som fra 1950’erne slog sig ned i byen. En ny fase indtrådte, da hovedpersonen sammen med tre andre lokale indremissionske mænd tog initiativet til oprettelse af Løgumkloster Refugium, højskole og tilknyttede institutioner. Expanding Vision is a missiological, theological, and practical memoir. The author details cross-cultural experiences that, in conversation with Scripture, challenged his initial resistance to the idea that one born as a Muslim could call themselves a "Muslim follower of Jesus." Williams explores Scripture, theology, and sociology in the context of his twenty years living as an evangelical Christian in a Muslim community as he sought to invite his friends and neighbors into faith-filled allegiance to Jesus. Williams encourages and equips those working in non-Christian environments to lovingly engage and disciple non-Christian friends in such a way as to help them maintain, rather than reject, on-going community relationships and identity. Williams provides a place to discuss the questions many in cross-cultural Christian work have been forced to ask while transparently exploring his thought processes and decisions on the journey to follow Jesus made in interaction with others. Though there are theories to these issues, Williams brings the theories into the dynamic realities of human interaction. The theories interplay with thousands of hours on conversation between Williams and Central Asian Muslims in his living room, their homes, the local bazaar, and workplace settings.J. S. Williams invites readers to join him on a journey to expand their vision. This journey requires removing blinders and being uncomfortable. It may heighten fears and threaten stereotypes. Williams prays that this journey would open up new vistas of possibility, that it would undermine false images of Muslims and especially disciples in Muslim contexts, and that it would expand the readers's visions for the heights, depth, length, and width of Jesus's love and glory among all the peoples he created.

The final section looks at specific cultural settings, particularly within Africa and Europe. This volume equips readers to reflect intentionally on their lifestyles, strategies, and practices as they serve in physically risky settings.

Over the past several decades, scholars and practitioners have increasingly discussed the relationship between missions and business. For some people, business exists to fund the mission enterprise. However, others see business as a legitimate vehicle for missions itself. The debate surrounding Business as Mission (BAM) underlines many important issues with practical implications. In this volume of the EMS annual series, contributors address several critical questions. For example, what are the marks of integrity in business conducted with mission objectives in a cross-cultural context? Which business models make the greatest impact on the communities they serve? Do we need to change how we train business personnel? How will missionary training need to be adjusted? While this book does not provide an exhaustive list of answers, it does seek to provide much-needed definition, theological clarity, and missiological focus. The contributors disagree with each other at times. This is a welcome feature of Business as Mission, because it enables people to understand a variety of concerns and approaches related to the topic. This book represents the single most ambitious effort to date to understand and improve upon patterns of ministry in short term missions (STM). In six sections, the authors explore topics such as the links between STM and older patterns of long-term missions; engagement with people of other cultures; international partnerships; specialized ministries such as medical missions; legal and financial liabilities and, finally, the impact of STM on participants.The goal of Effective Engagement in Short-term Missions is to improve the ways in which STM is carried out and to develop the understandings needed on the part of all who engage in the ministry. While there are criticisms in the book, these criticisms are not directed against STM per se, but against particular ways of doing STM. Youth pastors, mission pastors, lay leaders, college and seminary students, and missiologists will all find information that is helpful and relevant to their concerns.

This book presents a collection of true stories from the life of a missionary in Central America. Through these experiences, God used Don Dodsworth to touch the hearts of a people who were extremely poor and plagued by malaria, tuberculosis, a variety of parasites, and a habitual life of drunkenness which led to an extremely low survival rate.
