Water is central to human existence and promotion of healthy living, hence the saying that "water is life". Use of water by man, plants and animals is universal. Human community uses water for various purposes and in the end produces both liquid and solid wastes as well as air emission. The liquid waste normally referred to as wastewater has its major parts coming from the water, people have consumed. Those wastes are to be disposed off at suitable places so as to ensure proper sanitation. The book discusses the concepts involved in the process of water supply, wastewater treatment as well as the principles of sanitation. The book is divided into two parts with each part consisting of seven chapters. Each chapter is also divided into sections and sub-sections. Part I of the book deals with water supply while Part II is devoted to wastewater treatment and sanitation. Worked examples are given where applicable and at the end of each chapter, practice questions are given. The book is written for practitioners in the fields of civil engineering, environmental engineering, public health and water resources. It will be particularly useful for students in those fields of study.
The Soil Conservation Service Curve Number (SCS-CN) method is one of the most popular and accepted method for runoff estimation at watershed scale. The attractive feature of the SCS-CN method is that it integrates the complexity of runoff generation into single parameter, i. e. CN. In last decade, the method has received much attention in the hydrologic and watershed management literatures. Recent contributions have significantly enhanced its application potential. This book covers proposed methodology containing three approaches to determine CN viz. modifying CN by using cumulative rainfall-runoff ordered data, by integrating morphometric parameters, and by incorporating evapotranspiration. This book will be of special appeal to hydrologic research scholars, modelers and model users. I shall feel amply rewarded if the book proves helpful in the field applications in semi-arid hydro-meteorological regions as well as in the development of genuine research studies.
Investment in apparel has served as springboard for early phase industrialization ambition of a country. Ethiopia as late emerging nation aspires to unlock untapped potential of the sector. This can only be realized in the firm¿s ability to integrate and meet global buyers¿ requirements as compared with other players in the market. In this regard, the book brings the through examinations of the capabilities, competitiveness, and prospects of the garment firms in Ethiopia in light of global apparel value chain. Besides, it also provides clear and timely picture of the sector alongside of assessing the pertinent business climate in the industry.
