Semantic web technologies (SWTs) offer the richest machine-interpretable (rather than just machine-processable) and explicit semantics that are being extensively used in various domains and industries. This book provides a roadmap for semantic web technologies (SWTs) and highlights their role in a wide range of domains including cloud computing, Internet of Things, big data, sensor network, and so forth. It also explores the prospects of these technologies including different data interchange formats, query languages, ontologies, Linked Data, and notations. The role of SWTs in 'epidemic Covid-19', 'e-learning platforms and systems', 'block chain', 'open online courses', and 'visual analytics in healthcare' is described as well. This book:Explores all the critical aspects of semantic web technologies (SWTs) Discusses the impact of SWTs on cloud computing, Internet of Things, big data, and sensor network Offers a comprehensive examination of the emerging research in the areas of SWTs and their related domains Provides a template to develop a wide range of smart and intelligent applications Includes latest applications and examples with real data This book is aimed at researchers and graduate students in computer science, informatics, web technology, cloud computing, and Internet of Things.
This critical and forward-looking book features:An assessment of the impact of Internet of Things (IoT) on the telecom industry's revenue streamsIoT-based business models in the telecom industryA PESTLE (political, economic, socio-cultural, technological, legal, and environmental) analysis of the industry in relation to IoTKey technological drivers. It also features a case study of Bell Canada Enterprises (BCE) Inc., which highlights IoT-based business models in the industry. The study reveals that telecom operators have started implementing IoT projects, however, true revenue streams are yet to materialize. Ten IoT-based business models have been identified at BCE Inc. The book points out that operators do leverage existing infrastructure in terms of broadband fiber and mobile connectivity in part and resort to partnerships and acquisitions to acquire much-needed knowledge, technology, and smart devices. Concerning the effect of IoT on the telecoms' revenue streams, it was revealed that new entrants, who are not necessarily in the telecom industry, have impacted the old players' revenue streams. OTT services like YouTube, WhatsApp, IPTV, Netflix, are the biggest culprits. Seven key technological drivers for IoT have been identified and include widespread wireless connectivity, the availability and affordability of microcontrollers, sensors and actuators, the decreasing cost of bandwidth, the recent implementation of IPv6, and the ongoing development of 5G network, as well as the use of cloud computing and analytics. Finally, the PESTLE analysis of the industry shows that the lack of a comprehensive political and regulatory framework still slows down IoT deployment. Interoperability, security, and privacy concerns are other constraints. Conversely, general economic conditions in most developed and developing economies are favorable to the advancement of IoT technology. Governments are willing to subsidize R&D and have partnered with the private sector to speed up the roll-out process.

Mobile Commerce 3.0 tells the story of a new era of mobile Internet connectivity in which the media provides the business community with a new platform for opportunities and challenges, bringing back the impulses of early human tribal survival. By elaborating various breakthroughs of this era, the author reveals the abundant advantages of "Internet+", and explores how this new technology has redefined mobile commerce from a theoretical and strategic perspective. Diversification, freedom, and equality are shown to be at the core of the new ecology of mobile e-commerce, as well as the chief motivations of the new Internet age. As for future development, the author looks forward to the ways in which tribal e-commerce will upgrade humans and technology from its 2.0 stage to a 3.0 era.
The "media" used to mean television, radio, newspapers, and magazines; but today it largely involves social media, which has swallowed up all of these other forms and is now controlled by a small group of Silicon Valley titans who decide what billions of people are able to see and hear online. The convergence of old technology and new has centralized unimaginable power into the hands of a few gigantic corporations that now dictate how we communicate with each other and perceive the outside world. Media analyst Mark Dice details how the rise of social media that tipped the balance of power regarding the production and distribution of information has also resulted in a massive backslash from those conspiring to regain the influence they once held. Now conservatives are experiencing widespread censorship as the tech giants scramble to put the genie back in the bottle. The liberal media has launched an information war against President Trump and his supporters, and are using their monopolies to manipulate public opinion in order to further their aims of a socialist revolution.

Can you have a transformative experience as a result of falling through a programming error in the latest triple-A title? Does looking out across a vast virtual vista of undulating mountains and tumultuous seas edge you closer to the sublime? In an effort to answer these sorts of questions, Gaming and the Virtual Sublime considers the 'virtual sublime' as a conceptual toolbox for understanding our affective engagement with contemporary interactive entertainment. Through a detailed examination of the history of the sublime, from pseudo-Longinus' jigsaw puzzle of the sublime in rhetoric, through the eighteenth-century obsession with beauty and terror, past the Kantian mathematical and dynamical sublime, all the way to Lyotard's 'unpresentable event' and Deleuze's work on chaos and rhythm, this book road-tests these differing components in a far-reaching exploration of how video games - as virtual spaces of affect - might reshape our opportunities for sublime experience. Using playthroughs, developer diaries, forums discussions and contemporaneous reviews, and games ranging from the heartbreak of That Dragon: Cancer through to the abject body-horror of Outlast (with a dash of Tetris in-between) are discussed in terms the experience(s) of play, their design and their co-creation with gamers with a specific focus on rhetoric and narrative; awe; fear and terror; death and boredom. Written in an engaging and accessible style, this book is a must-read for philosophers, scholars, and those interested in games and popular culture more broadly.
