Seminar paper from the year 2017 in the subject English Language and Literature Studies - Culture and Applied Geography, grade: 2,0, University of Frankfurt (Main), language: English, abstract: This term paper focuses on the comparison between two Indigenous films, "Boy" by Taika Waititi and "Bran Nue Dae" by Rachel Perkins on the basis of forms and functions of humor that are presented in both films.Comparing these two films, the viewer might immediately ask the question why the depiction of historical trauma of the two peoples, M¿ori and Aborigines, is presented in a comical manner. These films are classified as "dramedies". It does not mean that a dramedy is a comedy with dramatic elements or vice versa, it¿s a genre of drama that is defined by stories focusing on character development, intense emotions and inner conflict as the primary source of plot. In these films, humor has been selected as a main tool to illustrate the problems of these two nations that have been confronted with social segregation in New Zeeland and Australia. For this reason, such a tragicomically represented humor serves as a difficulty for its appropriate perception on the viewers¿ part. In the movies, the plot revolves in 1969 in Australia and in 1984 in New Zealand, so explicitly in the times of the national revival of Aborigines and Maori. Then, after centuries of discrimination, they were given full rights and became full-fledged members of society. So, a mix of tragedy and comedy is not a coincidence since the Indigenous people who have come through a lot of tragedy had then a reason to cheerfully celebrate their newly obtained equal status.

Welcome back to Clarkson's Farm.At the end of Jeremy's first year in the tractor's driving seat, Diddly Squat farm rewarded him with a profit of just £144. So, while he's the first to admit that he's still only a 'trainee farmer'*, there is clearly still work to be done.Because while he's mastered the art of moaning about nearly everything, some of the other attributes required of a successful farmer prove more of a challenge. Who knew, for instance, that loading a grain trailer was more demanding than flying an Apache gunship? That cows were more dangerous than motor-racing? Or that it would have been easier to get planning permission build a nuclear power station than to turn an old barn into a farm restaurant? But if the council planning department and the local red trouser brigade seem determine to frustrate his schemes at every turn, at least he's got Lisa, Kaleb, Cheerful Charlie and Gerald, his dry-stone-walling Head of Security to see him through. And cold beer brewed with spring barley harvested from Diddly Squat's own fields ...Life on Clarkson's Farm may not always go according to plan. There may not always be one. But there's not a day goes by when Jeremy can't say 'I've done a thing' and mean it ...* generous, in Kaleb's view____________PRAISE FOR DIDDLY SQUAT'Clarkson has done more for farmers in one series than Countryfile achieved in 30 years'James Rebanks, author of A Shepherd's Life'Clarkson has showcased the passion, humour and personalities of the people who work throughout the year to grow the nation's food ... and brought an understanding of many of the issues faced by farmers to the British public'National Farmers Union'A deserving Farming Champion of the Year'Farmers Weekly'I don't know anything about farming. Based on the beloved Radio 4 series, BLEAK EXPECTATIONS recounts the remarkable adventures of young Pip Bin as he tries to make his way in a world made all horrible by the machinations of his cruel guardian, Mr Gently Benevolent. Grim circumstances, mistaken identities, nightmarish court-cases, ridiculous names, convenient coincidences to resolve plot problems, over-sentimental death scenes and lots and lots of adjectives: Bleak Expectations is a novel like Charles Dickens might have written after far too much gin.

  • af Leslie Knope
    218,95 kr.

Welcome to Pawnee: First in Friendship, Fourth in Obesity. Let Leslie Knope (as played by Amy Poehler on NBC's hit show Parks and Recreation) take you on a hilarious tour through her hometown, the Midwestern haven known as Pawnee, Indiana. Meet the city's colorful citizens, like much-loved public servant and man of nature Ron Swanson; learn about industrial giants such as Sweetums and the Kernston's Rubber Nipple factory; and explore hopping nightlife venues such as the Snake Hole, or indulge in the greatest waffles in the world at JJ's Diner (specialty meal: The Four Horse-Meals of the Egg-Pork-alypse). The book also delves into Pawnee's rich and varied history, including the time the whole town was on fire, or when that cult that took over in the 1970s, and how we overcame decades of conflict with (and some unfortunate massacres of) the Wamapoke Indians to live in harmony. Everything's definitely totally cool with them now. Packed with laugh-out-loud photographs, illustrations, and commentary by all the characters from the show, Pawnee is a must-read that will make you enjoy every moment of your stay in the Greatest Town in America.

The Rev Diaries is the hilarious tie-in novel to the award-winning hit BBC1 comedy, Rev, starring Tom Hollander.'I went into the newsagent's for a packet of fags and I saw the exercise book, and I thought, yes, that's got your name on it. Or it soon will. Buy it and fill it with your thoughts, which are many and beautiful and frequently in service to the Lord. Make a diary of your time at St Saviour's. Maybe, in two hundred years' time, you'll be celebrated as the Samuel Pepys of the Church of England. Or a sort of Reverend Bridget Jones. Is that too much to hope for, Lord?'Meet Rev. Adam Smallbone, recently promoted from a sleepy rural parish to funky, inner-city St Saviour's in Hackney. Out of his depth in his new, urban surroundings, he's doing the best he can, supported by his loving, but agnostic wife, Alex.As Adam struggles with the unfamiliar demands of his new parish, there aren't many he can turn to. There's the wild Colin, the waspish Archdeacon, the pompous Nigel, the smothering Adoha and Ellie, the formidably attractive headmistress of the local C of E school. There's God of course. There's always God. But in Adam's hour of need, will God - and Alex - be enough?Rev. Adam Smallbone is the vicar of St Saviour's in Hackney. He studied History at Bristol University, and was ordained in 1999. He is married to Alexandra, a solicitor. He was a curate in the Ipswich Diocese before becoming the vicar of St Peter's, Gromford, where he was able to be asleep most nights by 9 p.m.

  • - Undervisning uden et blå skær
    af Peter Holdt Christensen
    195,95 kr.
