The Power of Sexual Surrender, first published in 1959, is a classic guide to female sexuality and the treatment of frigidity. Author Marie Robinson M.D., a Cornell educated psychiatrist, devoted her New York City practice to the treatment of frigidity, and this book is a result of her work with hundreds of women seeking better sex lives and happier relationships. Although some 'feminists' may consider some of her ideas out-of-favor, her view of the basic nature of men and women remains timeless and of value today in promoting healthy, sane marriages. The Power of Sexual Surrender discusses female orgasm, the root causes of various types of frigidity, provides case histories as examples, and, importantly, provides simple means of self-treatment. One reviewer called the book "the sanest work on feminine psychology ever written."
"Home Geography for Primary Grades" by C.C. Long is an educational book designed to teach geography to young students, particularly those in primary grades. Written by Christine C. Long, this book was published in the early 20th century and reflects the educational methods and perspectives of that time. The book is likely structured to introduce young learners to basic concepts of geography in a way that is engaging and accessible. It may cover topics such as the local environment, the geography of the home, and simple mapping skills. The goal is likely to provide children with a foundational understanding of the world around them. Key features of the book may include: Simple Language: The language used in the book is likely tailored to the comprehension level of primary-grade students, making it easy for them to understand geographical concepts. Illustrations: Educational illustrations and maps are probably included to visually enhance the learning experience. Visual aids are commonly used in educational materials for younger students to reinforce concepts. Interactive Activities: To make the learning experience more interactive and enjoyable, the book may include activities and exercises for students to apply what they've learned. Focus on Familiar Settings: The geography lessons are likely centered around familiar settings, such as the student's home or local community, to make the subject matter relatable. Alignment with Educational Standards: During the time of its publication, educational materials often aligned with the prevailing curriculum standards. This book is likely to align with the geography curriculum for primary grades of its time. It's important to note that the specific content and teaching methods may vary, and the book would be best understood in the historical context of early 20th-century education. If you have access to the book, exploring its pages will provide more detailed insights into the topics covered and the approach taken by the author.
This volume consists of fifteen multidisciplinary papers written by prehistoric, classical, and postclassical archaeologists from different institutions worldwide. They provide quite an open view of different aspects of underway landscape archaeology research in many countries, from Europe to Asia and the Americas. The papers cover a wide variety of territories that, in one way or another, have been crossed, exploited, and changed by the impact of Neanderthals and Modern humans throughout different periods of the Pleistocene and the Holocene. Extreme environments have also been considered, among which are central Asia's desert landscapes and western Europe's northernmost territories. The result consists of an interesting mosaic of papers discussing Medieval, subrecent periods, and archaeometric approaches.
Global health challenges and their impact on public well-beingIn the 21st century, we are facing a complex landscape of global health challenges. These challenges have a profound impact on our physical, mental, and social well-being, making it essential for the global community to take action quickly.1. The persistent threat of infectious diseasesFrom pandemics such as HIV/AIDS to emerging viruses such as Ebola and COVID-19, infectious diseases remain a major threat to global health. Their spread is further exacerbated by socio-economic inequality, poor sanitation, and limited access to medical care. Vaccination, public health awareness, and appropriate investment are essential to address these challenges.2. The growing burden of non-communicable diseasesNon-communicable diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and mental disorders are now the leading cause of global mortality. These diseases are primarily linked to unhealthy lifestyles, poor diet, smoking, and excessive alcohol consumption. Nutrition education, promotion of physical activity, tobacco control, and improvements in mental health services are needed to prevent these trends.3. Environmental degradation and its impact on healthEnvironmental issues such as deforestation, climate change, and air pollution are giving rise to many health problems. Air pollution is increasing respiratory diseases, climate change is increasing the risk of food insecurity and waterborne diseases, and the destruction of ecosystems is weakening economic and social stability. It is essential to adopt sustainable development practices and conserve natural resources to mitigate these challenges.

«Antonis Balasopoulos is to be heartily thanked for bringing back into print A. L. Morton¿s marvelous book The English Utopia ¿ and for providing us with not only a useful and insightful Introduction, but also a comprehensive bibliography of Leslie Morton¿s many writings. We definitely need such works in these difficult times when democracy is under siege by authoritarian forces. Morton¿s chapters may well truly serve both to empower our critical thinking and to inspire our radical-democratic imaginations.»(Harvey J Kaye, Professor Emeritus of Democracy & Justice, University of Wisconsin-Green Bay)«Antonis Balasopoulos describes his job as an ¿exercise in historical reclamation.¿ He is due much gratitude for both the scrupulousness and the expertise he brings to his task. The Introduction is a model of its kind, positioning Morton in his own milieu as a committed intellectual. Morton¿s book more than deserves this careful attention. In this new Ralahine edition, The English Utopia appears as the seminal text in utopian studies it should have been. »(Patricia McManus, Senior Lecturer, School of Humanities and Social Science, University of Brighton)A. L. Morton¿s classic 1952 study of utopias in the context of British social history constitutes one of the earliest sustained engagements with the social and ideological sources of the utopian imagination, the importance of the class struggle for literary production and of literary production for cultural, if not political hegemony. Traversing English literary history from the medieval poem on the Land of Cockaygne to Sir Thomas More, to William Morris¿s News from Nowhere and the subsequent decline of the genre and the eventual rise of anti-utopian and dystopian strains in the early twentieth century, The English Utopia remains provocative and critically engaging more than seventy years after its original publication. In addition to charting its significance as an intervention, the present edition also brings to light Morton¿s complex role as Left political activist, historian, scholarly catalyst and cultural critic ¿ a paradigmatic instance of the engaged and public intellectual.

The COVID-19 pandemic and in particular its resultant lockdown had a devastating impact on female professionals and workers in all sectors of the economy and all countries of the world. Despite their struggles and setbacks, women emerged from the pandemic with new requirements in their workplaces. This Merits Special Issue "Changing Realities for Women and Work: The Impact of COVID-19 and Prospects for the Post-Pandemic Work World" provides a multi-perspectival view of the impact of the pandemic on women and highlights some of the areas that employers need to improve in order to attract women back into the workplace. The articles included in this Special Issue highlight mental health issues exacerbated by the pandemic and the need for employers to address them; how burnout manifested during this time; the impact of the need for women to care for and educate their children in addition to working during lockdown; the importance of resilience; and career challenges women face. Successful leadership approaches among both government leaders and women themselves emerged and will be critical in the post-pandemic work world.
To take stock of the 1980 Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction in its 43rd year and to highlight several of the key issues discussed on the agenda of the Eighth Special Commission (10-17 October 2023), this Special Issue considers the convention's implementation and operation within and across the current 103 Contracting Parties. It addresses current global debates on important issues in the context of international child abduction, like habitual residence, the child's best interests, international refugee law, domestic violence, and the use of the 'grave risk'/'intolerable situation' exception to return as outlined in Article 13(1)(b) of the 1980 Hague Convention. Additionally, it explores the consideration of the child's perspective and the utilization of the child objection exception to return as outlined in Article 13(2) of the same convention. The interaction of the 1980 Hague Convention with other international conventions (e.g., the UNCRC 1989) and regional frameworks (e.g., the Brussels II-ter Regulation and the ECHR) is also explored. A central feature of this Special Issue is its focus on the need for, and how best, the 1980 Hague Convention can be nurtured to help meet the current operational and global expansion challenges.
Hostile sexism describes attitudes characterising women as deliberately attempting toemotionally exploit men and challenge men's power. Men who endorse hostile sexism oftenemploy negative strategies to reduce any risk of exploitation and feelings of dependence, such as withdrawing from difficult conversations. However, no research has identifiedwhether this occurs due to concerns about depending on women or concerns about dependingon others more generally. My thesis tests how men's endorsement of hostile sexism isassociated with experiences of seeking support across different types of support providers(e.g., men vs. women) and contexts of dependence (e.g., romantic partners vs. non-romanticclose others). Chapter Two tested support-seeking in heterosexual people across a context ofromantic dependence (i.e., relying on a partner; Study 1) and non-romantic dependence (i.e.,relying on friends of mixed genders; Study 2). Across both studies, men who endorsed hostilesexism were more resistant to seek support from people they were more dependent on-butthere was no evidence that resistance emerged more strongly for relationships with women(vs. men). Chapter Three presents an observational study testing links between people'sendorsement of hostile sexism and their patterns of support behaviour from an unknownperson to accomplish a joint task. Results did not reveal any evidence that situationaldependence (i.e., not having the resources to complete a task) was associated with expectedpatterns of support seeking by heterosexual men who endorsed hostile sexism. Instead, menwho endorsed hostile sexism were generally resistant to support when paired with other menrather than women. Chapter Four focused on romantic dependence by testing whetherheterosexual men who endorsed hostile sexism received less support from their femaleromantic partners over time.
Buildings consume about 40% of the global energy. Therefore, the building sector plays a key role in achieving the goals of carbon peak and carbon neutrality. Various energy-saving technologies for buildings, such as building envelops, mechanical systems, and energy resources, have been developed to help to achieve zero- or even net-energy buildings while maintaining comfort and a healthy indoor environment. This Special Issue on building energy-saving technology was open to all contributors in the field of building engineering. The original experimental studies, numerical simulations, and reviews in all aspects of building energy utilization, management, and optimization have been considered. For this event, all of these topics were covered in the extensive submissions which were accepted, but interesting papers on other aspects of building energy efficiency were also received. In this reprint, the main research findings of the accepted papers in the Special Issue, including the energy-saving technologies involved in building envelops, mechanical systems, are summarized, and occupant behaviors, and a number of research questions and research directions are identified.
