While traveling across the country to the city of El Paso, Texas, during the days of the Old West, a friendly wanderer calls you over to his campsite on the side of the road. He has a few stories to tell with no one to tell them to and offers you and your horse a chance to rest, eat, and drink while he talks and you listen. The stories he tells are of brutal bounty hunters, would-be heroes, gamblers, mysterious drifters, survivalists, revenge-seekers, and daring outlaws. As you listen you also hear tales of miners, and bartenders all just trying to make their way in the world.
An examination of how history and politics can change the face of a city, this work shows how perpetrators of colonialism have made use of urban planning and architecture to underscore and legitimate ideologies. It highlights Ireland's colonial history and the significance of architecture in the evolution of national identity.
