A study of the Scottish Gypsies under the Stewarts has the advantage of embracing a much longer period of time than the Tudor period, as the era of Stewart rule, beginning with the accession of Robert II in 1371, did not actually come to an end until the death of Queen Anne in 1714. This study of the Scottish gypsies cannot claim to do more than assist in the ultimate unraveling of the intricate question of these persons.
