You've never been on a trip like this. Homer's "Odyssey"? Twain's "Innocents Abroad"? Steinbeck's "Travels With Charley"? Combine them with "The Ugly American", and you might have a tiny idea of what it's like to travel with the Beldens. George and Helena Belden, along with their willing and wide-eyed companion Bob Geiser, have spent the first decades of the 2000's looking at the world with a powerful sense of wonder and though the bottom of pint mugs. George and Helena grew up in the town of Windham, Ohio, population 2600, and spent their lives, as did Bob Geiser, as public school teachers, but it wasn't until they retired that THEIR education began: there were places to go, people to see, and friends to make on land and sea, in pubs and on the street, spending every day wondering where they would sleep that night. And sometimes they don't sleep. That just makes the next day even more of an adventure, as you find out as you travel with them. George Belden spent his entire career teaching and coaching at Maple Heights High School. Helena Belden taught elementary classes for 30 years in the same school she had attended. Bob Geiser taught and coached with George at Maple Heights before becoming an administrator at Willoughby South High School.
