Aloysius Leigh has been shot, burned alive, drowned, tortured, and sent through a wormhole that punched through realities. Escaping an alternate Earth ravaged by an alien infestation when his ride is busted won't be as easy. Leigh and his artificial intelligence, Daphne, crash land in an alternate Portland where a rogue comet in 1945 brought a hostile alien species to Earth that wiped out two-thirds of all terrestrial life. Unable to access the Lens, the field that allows Leigh to channel, focus and redirect energy, they are trapped unless they can discover what is interfering with the nanotechnology bound to his body and mind. What they find is a hidden society of human-alien symbiotes plotting to finish the infestation they started in 1945, and only a powerless Leigh stands in their way. Humans are the safest place to hide.
Aloysius Leigh is the only living human to travel the unimaginable distance between realities, but a fantastic journey to a hidden world within his mind will leave him hopelessly lost and unable to tell what is real and what is an illusion. With only days before Mt St. Helens incinerates an unsuspecting Pacific Northwest in a gargantuan pyroclastic cloud, Leigh arrives in Daphne's San Francisco to discover he's a man with a price on his head, and everyone is looking for a payday. In order to locate Daphne and stop the eruption, Leigh must play a deadly game against a criminal organization called the Heptagon that he can't afford to lose; while in the world outside his mind, a bewildered Leigh finds himself maimed and a prisoner in a place that calls into question his sanity. Short on time and allies, Leigh must do battle in two very different worlds to keep from losing his mind...or his head. Reality is an illusion.
