Senior police officers at Latimer and locals of the little township of Bracken Wells in Central Western NSW, were taken by surprise at the arrival of DCI Bill Harrigan and his team from the United Nations International Investigation Agency. Jack Kallan, the Australian Prime Minister, got more than he bargained for when he invited UNIIA to investigate allegations of sexual abuse at the Monastery of the Brothers of the Holy Order of the Apostles and the disappearance of Susan Bryant, a political activist from the Greening Australia Party, protesting the extension of the Cypress Valley coal mine into the Bandianna State Conservation Area. Will Harrigan's legendary cynicism of the political system uncover anything untoward during the original granting of the coal mining rights in Cypress Valley? And what did Sam Poo, the Chinese bushranger of 1865 and a local indigenous lad from the Thurmoyumai people have to do with anything?
This fourth book in the Detective Chief Inspector Bill Harrigan series, gives Harrigan no relief from the twists and turns that plague his every case. When the body of murdered art critic Eric Weiman is found by two young lovers seeking a soft, warm and private place to know each other intimately once more, they had no way of knowing that the young girl's lost silver crucifix would spark an investigation that would lead Harrigan into the world of counterfeit art, diamond smuggling, infidelity, blackmail and murder. Come with Harrigan and DS Sarah Throgmorton as they follow the clues down a path the leads them through a world absorbed with British Aristocracy, canal boats, sailing mishaps, fake masters and forbidden sex. Once again, it is only through Harrigan's tenacity, courage and confidence in his own ability that will ultimately lead to true justice being achieved.
What was the link between the murder of a senior civil servant in the UK government, a small time drug pusher and addict and an unsolved cold case murder committed three years earlier? What was it that turned a loving husband into a brutal wife beater? All the evidence was there, so why was it that Detective Bill Harrigan of London's, Stonegate Police Station, had so much difficulty accepting the result to which the evidence clearly led. Not only were his superintendent and his colleagues eager to close this case and move on, the Police Commissioner himself, under orders from the Home office, demanded it. Maybe that is why the forty two year old Harrigan, a tough no nonsense bachelor, the son of a country cop who grew up in the Australian outback before returning to London, found it so difficult to let go. He had an intense distrust of politicians, the bureaucracy and governments. In his experience, they will stop at nothing to cling to power. Their eagerness to shut this case down, only served to strengthen Harrigan's resolve to keep it open. But it was more than that? Maybe the evidence was too convenient. Maybe the photograph taken in the gay bar was a red herring. Who was high flying psychiatrist, Winslow-Cammeron's four a.m. mystery patient? Too many questions. Harrigan was determined to find the answers. A decision he may live to regret. "If you're feeling flattered that I know so much about you, Inspector," Police Commissioner, Sir Charles Reece added, "please don't. My need to know a policeman's details are rarely borne through any complimentary reason." My God, he thought, we're flirting on the way to the morgue! He felt there was something animalistically stimulating about that.
"Destroy the Paper Tiger" is the second novel in the Inspector Bill Harrigan series. Set in London in the late 1980's, it is a richly detailed, intriguing mystery novel, interspersed with moments of humour and drama. The many twists and turns and red herrings, keep the reader turning the pages up to the end of the story. When faced with two bodies in the ruins of a burned out warehouse, Harrigan had no idea it would lead him into a world of international altruism, murder, forbidden passion and eventually set him against Muhammad Asif Mahmood, one of the world's most feared and powerful men. Only Harrigan could solve this mystery. He doesn't bow to threats, whether the threats come from Mahmood or the Home Office. He goes where the investigation takes him, seeking justice over the letter of the law, and he will do whatever it takes... whatever it takes. A must read for all crime fiction devotees
When summoned by the Commissioner of the London Metropolitan Police Force, DCI Harrigan knew something big was happening. But even Harrigan never imagined he was about to be seconded into the newly formed United Nations International Investigation Agency, and forced to pit his wits against the combined might of a hostile FBI, CIA and US Secret Service. What possible connection could there be between what appeared to be the simple murder of a call girl, and a secret hidden so deep within the bowels of the White House, that even the US President was unaware of its existence. A story, set in Washington DC in March 1990, that spins a web of intrigue, exposing the lies, dirty politics and seedier side of the capital city of the free world, but with a touch of humour that prevents it becoming too dark. What possible link could there be between the murder of Kim Sooyoung, Saddam Hussein and the missing Weapons of Mass Destruction sought unsuccessfully by the Coalition of the Willing several years later? Sought unsuccessfully? Maybe, maybe not. Readers are reminded this book is Classified.
Who would have thought that a chance remark at a family Christmas luncheon in the heart of the picturesque English midlands, would've led Detective Chief Inspector Bill Harrigan of the London Metropolitan Police, on a personal vendetta against the brutality and horror of the IRA terrorism sweeping across mainland Britain. What caused him to pit himself against what he saw as an inept Special Branch, as he followed the trail of mayhem and destruction that travelled their evil course through the ages, from the battles in the late sixteen hundreds that raged between King Edward the 1st of England and the nobles of Scotland, to the cruel and senseless murders of today's society laid bare in front of him. In another intriguing Harrigan mystery, the Christmas of nineteen eighty-nine, is a Christmas that will forever change the lives of many across the world, from the beautiful English Midlands market town of Chipping Minster, to the rugged Australian outback opal mining town of Coober Pedy and reaching across to the turbulent times of the approaching end of the USSR.
Dreamtime is the Australian Aboriginal belief of Creation. They believe the Earth was in darkness, when, from below the surface, supernatural Ancestor Beings resembling half human half animal creatures appeared. They moved across the world and changed the form of the land creating mountains, rivers, trees, waterholes, plains, sand hills and the people. After the creation, the mythical creatures sank back into the earth. While Nightmare in Dreamtime is based on the assumption that half human creatures created the world, and many of the names used in the story have aboriginal connotations and other similarities, it is not a story of the Australian Indigenous people or their beliefs. The story: When the good spirits of creation sank back into the earth, a group of evil spirits remained on the surface determined to stamp their evil ways into the minds of the mortals; similar to Lucifer and the fallen angels or angels of sin in the Christian belief. These Evil Ones, live in a parallel dimension with the mortals and morph into creatures of half human half animal form which enter the minds of mortals and make that mortal an evil person; an aggressor, a tormentor or oppressor of other mortals. Their leader is named Mokojuwari and he and his female companion Kaiya, run their Empire from the Realm of the Dreamtime Shadow. The evil in the mortal world grew, and eventually, the good spirits, could not allow the mortal world to self-destruct, and created the Realm of the Dreamtime of the 2nd Order which houses the Eternal Flame of Kudnu Muda, and whileever it burns, there is hope the mortal world can return to a place of peace and goodwill. The Dreamtime Warriors, recruited from good mortals who have been given supernatural powers including the ability to transform, or morph, into any animal, bird or element, capable of defeating any creature an Evil One had chosen that might suddenly spring from the mind of a mortal and attack a passing Warrior. Using that power, they seek out and destroy in violent battles to the death, Evil Ones from the minds of the possessed mortals, thereby releasing the mortal from the evil within them and returning them to a state of care and loving of the rest of mankind. The Realm of the 2nd Order and Dreamtime Shadow, share the same space in the same dimension, separated only by the differences of the good and evil mindsets. The timelessness of the Dreamtime dimension, allows Warriors to travel to any conflict or act of aggression, large or small, and destroy the Evil Ones. They cannot change history, but they can change the mindset of the aggressors so their descendants do not follow their evil ways. Jessica leads the Dreamtime Warriors with assistance from Cernaich, her lover. Their success forces Mokojuwari to kidnap them both and installs a traitor in their place to create an opportunity for his Evil Ones to enter the Realm of the 2nd Order and extinguish the Eternal Flame. He selects Sir Galahead the Elder, the offspring of Merlin the magician and Mireceni, daughter of Queen Boadicea, warrior queen of the Celtic Iceni tribe. His plan is successful, and while the battle rages for the fate of the Eternal Flame, Jessica and Cernaich escape from the Dreamtime Shadow, join the fight and eventually drive the Evil Ones from the Realm of the Dreamtime of the 2nd Order. Unfortunately, to win that fight, all Warriors needed to be withdrawn from the outside battles for the minds of the mortals, leaving the mortals to the mercy of the Evil Ones and the mortal world is again plunged into war and atrocity. With so many of their warriors killed and their ranks severely depleted, Banajira, the Great Spirit and leader of the Dreamtime of the 2nd Order, decides the war cannot be won. Jessica won't hear a word of it and this story, which is Part 1, ends with her gathering the remnants of the Warrior army beside the Whispering Falls for a war council to decide how to get their fight against Mokojuwari, back on track.
On secondment to the Australian Federal Police, Chief Inspector Bill Harrigan of the London Metropolitan Police is given the task of tracking down a crazed killer who has escaped from a UK prison, and has returned to Australia on a killing spree driven by hate and revenge. As the list of victims grows, Harrigan is forced to use his own brand of cunning and hard hitting law enforcement to ensure justice is done. As the manhunt leads him through a world of lies, deceit, blackmail, murder, deception, and human trafficking, Harrigan is suddenly faced with the threat of his own incarceration for perverting the course of justice in a case against the Esposito Crime Family.
Set in London,1990, the killing of five people in The Sisters' Basement nightclub gave DCI Bill Harrigan, in his role as Special Agent of the United Nations International Investigation Agency (UNIIA) with one of his most difficult cases yet. Why was the investigation given to UNIIA and not the local Police? Who was the target? The drugs dealer and International Arms Dealer or one of the other three? Why was the UK Government's Joint Intelligence Agency determined to remove UNIIA from the case at any cost?
