This book is a translation into English of the epic poem of a 19th century Persian mystic known as Junun (Jinab-i-Mirza Faraj'u'llah Fanaian), a hero of the dawn of a new Faith that was breaking through the gloom of a corrupt and downtrodden society. "The Repository of Mysteries" can be described as a mystic manual to guide the seeker in the search for the Beloved. The soul yearns to return to its spiritual source. Although the soul starts its existence at the moment of the conception of the human embryo, its creation comes from the celestial realm, which is its natural home. It, therefore, longs to break its earthly fetters and attain the bliss and rapture of that heavenly sphere. Thus the theme of "The Repository of Mysteries" is concerned with bringing out the innate potential that lies at the core of each soul. The spiritual wayfarer succeeds in transcending the limited self and gains access to heights beyond his highest aspiration. He will be reborn into the realm of spirit, becoming a denizen of a world beyond his wildest dreams. The book includes an introduction to the background of the epic and a short biography of the poet.
These days, there are many excellent and scholarly books available on the subject of mysticism and spirituality. Where "Treading the Mystic Path in Search of the Beloved" is unique is that, rather than implying any dichotomy between our spiritual lives and our physical lives, it demonstrates abundantly to what degree the mystic exaltation experienced in the moment of self-annihilation in the love of God colours every aspect of our daily existence.Furthermore, this book deals not only with the spiritualization of the individual soul but also with the spiritualization of society as a whole-a stage of human evolution that is crucial to answer the needs of the modern age. Thus, the gifted author-a much-travelled Persian Australian Bahá'í-discusses mysticism from a broad base, relating it to the main concerns that the world is facing today.Within the vibrant pages of this book, there is much from science, philosophy and sociology as well as from religion; all embroidered with pertinent, insightful and thought-provoking quotations from varied sources. As it traces the path of realization of the fundamental oneness of religion, the oneness of humankind, and the interconnectedness of all of creation, this book will speak to the hearts of readers from every walk of life; and from every religious tradition or none.
What is the “Mystic Path”; and Who is “the Beloved”?The answers to the above questions can be found in the following words revealed in the 19th century by Bahá ’u’lláh, the Prophet Founder of the Bahá’─▒╠ü Faith:"Every Prophet Whom the Almighty and Peerless Creator hath purposed to send to the peoples of the earth hath been entrusted with a Message, and charged to act in a manner that would best meet the requirements of the age in which He appeared. ...The Prophets of God should be regarded as physicians whose task is to foster the well-being of the world and its peoples, that, through the spirit of oneness, they mayhealthesicknessofadividedhumanity.... Itistowardstheinmostessenceof these Prophets, therefore, that the eye of every man of discernment must be directed, inasmuch as their one and only purpose hath always been to guide the erring, and give peace to the aflicted ...." ~ Gleanings from the Writings of Bahá’u’lláh, p. 79–80.The spiritual life of every individual person relates to human society as a whole; and, thus, to the world conditions that challenge humanity. In the present age, mysticism can no longer be considered as the exclusive domain of a few select initiates. Therefore, the analysis of the “Mystic Path” presented in this book is a new approach in which we discuss spirituality in relation to the main issues that the world is facing today. This book speaks to every human being. Readers from all religious traditions—or none—will find something of interest in the contents.
