'You just natter too much!' said the other gnats to Namby-Pamby, who sat singing alone on the tree.'I just do not like biting all the time. I sing, I write, that's my choice, ' said Namby-Pamby to the other three. 'But you are a gnat. You are supposed to bite. We do, ' they replied back. 'Whoever heard of a singing, talking, entertaining gnat, who lacks a very healthy appetite to bite?' Very angrily they said, 'Go do your croaking!' That's how a first-time author Noorie Ali starts her beautiful story about a Namby-Pamby who is so different from his fellow gnats that it takes him some creativity to persuade his friends that music is a powerful art which should always be part of our lives. This book was illustrated by a child artist, Yulia Voronetska, as part of an exciting project - www.kidsbookfarm.com - where kids learn to author and/or illustrate books. What do you have on your bookshelf? Well, books, you would say of course. Little Gabriella and her brother Sam also have books on the bookshelf in their bedroom. Lots and lots of books with big, bright pictures and wonderful stories. But that's not all. Gabriella and Sam have something or rather someone else on their bookshelf. They have trolls - actual, real trolls, who are happy, colourful and very noisy. They are called Pinky, Grey, Glitter Boy and Biggie. They have made little homes for themselves inside the bookends. During the day the trolls stay inside their homes. They don't like the sunlight that much. Their favourite time of day is the night-time. When Gabriella' and Sam's mum tucks them into their beds and picks a book for a bedtime story the trolls peek from inside their homes and get ready for an adventure. Pinky, Grey, Glitter Boy and Biggie love to race through the pages of the books as the kids' mum flips through them. Once Gabriella' and Sam's mum reads the name of the story, Pinky, Grey, Glitter Boy and Biggie prepare for a race. And as mom turns the pages, the trolls jump from one page to another, from one picture to another, competing over who is going to finish the book first. The Sweet Race is part of the Children's Book Farm series which helps children to become published authors and illustrators by including them in the most extraordinary process of creating books. The Sweet Race was written by Gabriella Galkin, an 8-year old author from the USA.
A Cat and Her Girl tells a sweet story about a cat Cali and her favourite human, Adrienne. A Valentine's Day special book for all ages.
In the fertile lands of the River, squabbling city states continue thousands of years of bloody warfare. Some fight for land, others for food, others still for personal glory. Unknown to all, a storm brews in the West. Will one man stand against the storm as it sweeps away his life? Can the River States put aside their old rivalries to face a bigger threat? Or will slow simmering hatred lead to bitterness and murder?
'How to Choose a Nose' is a story about a cute snowman who is determined to find a fun alternative to a boring choise of a carrot everyone is so used to when building a snowman. Bananas, anyone? Plums? Avocados? Pickles maybe! Let's see what our snowman has in mind...
This cute little rhyme will put a smile on the face of the little ones and their special grown-ups when they find out just how the royal dog solves the mail delivery dilemma for the queen (spoil alert - he will use the services of the royal snail). The story was inspired by a Christmas package I sent to my brilliant editor Leonora during the 2018 holiday season. Anxious for Leonora to receive the box of goodies, I have started every morning of December by tracking the parcels until it finally reached my editor a week and a half later. To that Leonora suggested that they must as well have strapped the package to the back of the snail as it surely doesn't take that long to transport a small parcel between Warwickshire and Surrey. And that's how the story was born...
