New year, new school, new problems. Eleven-year-old twins Maxwell and Mackenzie York will soon be starting middle school. Max is excited, Kenzie is not. Max is a leader, Kenzie is shy. In the past, Max has stuck up for his sister when she was bullied about being afraid or for the glasses she's worn since she was little. In middle school Max can't be with her all the time. So the twins' parents have come up with a plan to help Kenzie be more confident. Kenzie has been told, "You need to get out of your comfort zone." Kenzie's not sure what that means, but she doesn't think she's going to like it. And she's right. Since her brother is starting in the Junior Football League, Kenzie has been asked to try out for the league's cheerleader program. She agrees to go along, believing she'll never make the squad. When she get the call she's been selected, her stomach takes an immediate flip flop, and she wonders how she'll ever be able to perform in front of a crowd. On opening day, her brother looks super in his uniform, but Kenzie is embarrassed to wear the little skirt and sweater, not to mention the big blue bow in her ponytail. Her parents tell her how proud they are she's making the effort. But when they arrive at the sports complex, the twins witness a big kid picking on a smaller one. Max is ready to after the bully, but Kenzie warns him he could get into trouble and knows too well how the bully could turn on them. However, her heart does ache for the poor boy who was humiliated right in front of them. On the first day of school, they learn the big bully from football goes to their school, too. Robert is his name and he's out to make things miserable for Kenzie and her brother. Something has to be done, and with their new friends, the kids come up with an idea. And The Bully Buster Club is born.

Max is happy for his sister, but when it seems Kenzie might be the target of another bully will her new confidence hold true? And will Max be able to keep his temper and not fall back into being Kenzie's protector, erasing all the new positive changes the twins have fought so hard to make?
