We all want to be healthy. Good health, like most things worth having, requires some effort. That effort best begins with self-education. Living a healthy lifestyle starts with what you eat. After all, "we are what we eat"! We are made personally aware of this statement when we over-indulge in poor food and drink choices. As our body deals with the consequences we feel sluggish, nauseous, irritable and lacking in energy and enthusiasm. In modern western societies, we live in a world where our food health is usually compromised more by excess quantity than scarcity. It seems like almost all of the fast food chains have their own form of "supersizing". However, it is critical to make a distinction between sufficient or even excess food consumption and adequate nutrient intake. In other words, more food doesn't necessarily mean it is better for you nutritionally. In fact, much of the food and drink we consume are nothing more than empty calories - calories containing very few, if any, nutrients. The bottom line is most foods are produced with continuing and increasing sales as the major driver. How good they are for you isn't even part of the equation. To achieve this, producers and manufacturers often place more emphasis on taste, texture and appearance and shelf life rather than nutrient availability. Good food can and does taste good, but clever processing can make foods with little nutrient value taste incredibly good too. It is up to you to know the difference and that is where this information will help you to understand why some foods and food types are better for your health, vitality and well-being. Let's get started.

As you age you notice that you are not as strong as before. Most of us simply chalk that up to the "natural" aging process. However, to fight the physical dangers of aging, strength is very important. We are not talking about bodybuilding and packing on bulky muscles. What we mean is simply making your body stronger so that you don't become part of one of the following statistics ... - Falls in those 75 or older contribute to 70% of accidental deaths. - Respiratory issues such as COPD are the #3 cause of death for men and women 65 and older. - 1 in every 3 people over 65 will fall each year. (Doctors are certain this number is drastically higher, since many falls are not reported because of embarrassment or concern over medical bills.) - 1 in 5 Americans over 65 suffer from a lack of independence and reduced quality of life due to osteoporosis and/or diabetes. - If you are 80 years or older, there is a 50% chance you will fall. - As a senior citizen, if you fall once, you are 200% to 300% more likely to fall again. - Heart disease impacts 26% of women and 37% of men 65 or older. - Roughly 9,500 deaths in older US citizens each year are associated with falling. - Even if you survive a fall as a senior citizen, you suffer a much greater functional decline in your ability to perform normal daily activities. - Over 250,000 older Americans experience a fractured hip each year (research as of 1996, probably a larger number now due to aging of the US population) - Over half of adults over 65 years of age are affected by arthritis. - 1 in 4 seniors who fracture a hip die within 6 months as a result of that injury. The real problem here is not the scary statistics just covered. The problem is that each and every one of the debilitating and even deadly issues we just mentioned can be positively impacted by simply lifting light weights, yet seniors are not strength training. The following are the incredible benefits of simply lifting light weights a few times each week for seniors ... - A feeling of self-esteem and self-confidence - Improved circulatory system - Lowered risk of heart disease - Regulation of a naturally healthy body weight - Light weightlifting is an effective way to treat and eradicate back pain - You have fewer feelings of depression, anxiety and stress - You strengthen your bones, naturally improving your ability to fight health issues like osteoporosis - Light weightlifting is excellent for preventing and treating diabetes - Arthritis sufferers experience fewer painful symptoms when they weight train regularly - Your balance and flexibility are boosted, and joint pain is reduced. By now you are probably sold on the fact that you need to be lifting light weights and strength training if you are over 50 years of age or older. So, what's your next step? Reserve your copy of this book that shows you exactly how to benefit from lifting light weights as a senior citizen.

Home remedy, folk remedy or herbalism - are there differences? Yes, there is and in this book we talk about those differences. But after that the entire book is devoted to home remedies. Part of home remedies is the type of remedies Native Americans and settlers used because of two reasons: - One, doctors were scare to non-existent in the Old West. - Two, if available, they were expensive to use. So people discovered, and in many cases learned from the Native Americans, how to use plants that nature provided to cure many common health ailments. But home remedies take it one step further and also uses common foods like fruits and vegetables not only to heal, but to stay well in the first place. Also there is a chapter that shows how to use 20 commonly found-around-the-house-items that are used to cure various ailments and conditions. Even many of today's healthcare providers are recognizing the value of home remedies and are using the curative powers of plants and herbs in something called complementary medicine where they mix modern medicine with home remedies to come up with the best cure with the least side effects. This book is built around a very clear, concept: use commonly found and inexpensive items to cure common ailments without resorting to going to a doctor, but yet realizing when it is best to seek the advice of a doctor for further treatment.
Traveling is stressful ... period. Couple that with sleeping in a different bed, eating different food, not exercising properly, not drinking enough water, being exposed to different germs and viruses, and you have a recipe for getting sick while on a cruise. However, there are several things you can do to stay healthy and enjoy yourself, instead of sitting in your ship cabin miserable and trying to get well. As a veteran of almost 20 cruises, I have noticed three things initially that usually catch up to people after about Day 3 when on a cruise vacation: too much sun, too little sleep and too much alcohol. In my book, I go into each of these things in detail, sharing what I have learned over the years about staying healthy while traveling on a cruise. We have all heard the horror stories of mass illness outbreaks on cruise ships. While the possibility always exists, taking precautions can reduce the risk.
Exercise is known to be a key element to our overall health and wellbeing. When you are younger, you know you're supposed to exercise daily to maintain good health. However, as you age and those energy levels drop, it's easy to let exercise slip from your routine. The trouble is, if you want to maintain optimum health as you age, it is crucial to add exercise into your routine. Here, we'll look at just some of the reasons why keeping fit into old age is important.Preventing Disease and IllnessOne of the biggest reasons keeping fit into old age is important is because it helps to fight off disease and illness. As you get older, your risk of developing serious diseases such as cancer and heart disease increases. A number of studies have shown that regular exercise can help to decrease this risk. It also helps to improve your overall immune system. So, you'll also develop fewer illnesses such as the flu.Reduces the Chances of a FallOlder people are generally more prone to falls. These can result in serious injury which in turn impact independence. In many cases, a slip or fall in older people can mean they need to undergo hip and joint replacements. If you want to maintain your independence, regular exercise can help. Not only will it improve your balance, reducing the risk of a fall, but it also protects the joints, preventing serious injury. You'll also find that regular exercise helps to maintain mobility. So, you'll have no problem getting around and maintaining your independence.Improved Mental HealthIt isn't just your physical health you need to protect as you age. Mental health issues can also develop later in life. Exercise is proven to combat the symptoms of mental illness such as depression and anxiety. It releases endorphins which make you feel good, naturally reducing stress. You'll also find regular exercise helps you to sleep better. This in turn can boost your mood and combat a variety of mental health issues. It Reduces the Risk of DementiaFinally, another compelling reason to keep fit in older age is because it can reduce the risk of dementia. A study, published within the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease, found that leading a sedentary lifestyle in older age can increase the risk of dementia. It was discovered those who exercised had a lower risk of dementia than those who didn't.So, if you're looking to protect your mind, reduce the risk of disease and protect yourself against falls, regular exercise is essential. It can also help to improve your social life if you attend exercise classes for older people. You'll meet new people and get out of the house for a little while.Exercise is important no matter what age you are. However, it becomes even more important in older age. Make sure you follow guidance on how much exercise you should be getting, depending upon your age. Don't know what that guidance is? I explain it and more in my book "The Guide to Staying Fit When Aging"
Overcome the mental challenges of weight loss. Never again suffer the frustration of yo-yo dieting and eventual weight gain. For years, we have been taught the way to lose weight was through "dieting". That is all wrong. Why? Because a diet has a definite ending point and once reached, most people go back to their old eating habits and put on the weight they lost (and sometimes even more). A better way is to change to a healthy lifestyle that doesn't have an ending point. No longer are you tied to losing weight according to some unrealistic schedule, only to put it all back on later. With no ending point, so you can lose weight at your own pace and keep it off. It truly is the ONLY way to permanent weight loss.

Although most people want to lose belly fat so they look better, there are many more reasons why shrinking your midsection should be a priority. Recent studies have found that belly fat is more dangerous for the heart than general obesity. If that isn't scary enough, people carrying extra pounds around the waist have mortality rates that are twice as high as those who are obese. Even if the rest of your body is within normal range for body fat, a large mid-section will still put you at risk for serious medical conditions. Therefore, if you want to live a long and healthy life, losing your belly fat is a must. This isn't hype - science has confirmed that belly fat is not only a potential sign of poor cardiovascular health, but can also be a predictor of future health problems, such as insulin resistance, diabetes, heart attack, cancer, dementia, stroke, sexual dysfunction, sleep problems and mood disorders. Most people never make the connection between their poor health and the size of their mid-section - their main motivation for losing their belly is to look better. There is nothing wrong with wanting to look good in your jeans and it is perfectly fine if this is one of your motivating factors. But it is equally important that you understand the bigger picture because if you don't address your issues with belly fat, you may end up with much bigger problems than not fitting into your skinny jeans. As you may have experienced, belly fat is tough to lose and it feels like a never ending battle. Although belly fat is stubborn, it is not impossible to lose. Armed with the right information and plan, you can finally achieve the flat belly you have always dreamed of. You will not only look great in your jeans but will improve your overall health and vitality for the short and long-term! The key to a flat tummy is being 100% committed and true to a healthy lifestyle. Starting from the quality of food you eat, to how much sleep you get, what you drink, how much exercise you do, how you deal with stress, work-life balance and so on, they all have an effect on your healthy lifestyle. This guide was designed to give you the basic information you need to finally break through your belly fat plateau by taking a holistic approach to your weight loss. Meaning, it will go beyond nutrition and will educate you on the importance of sleep, stress relief and living a balanced life. When you approach your weight loss efforts as a full lifestyle change, your results will be long-term and permanent rather than short-term and temporary.
Anyone who has ever tried to lose weight knows that there are ups and downs, ebbs and flows. Some people get frustrated and stop trying to lose weight because they go on these complicated diets that either introduce foods that are as appetizing as cardboard or they strictly limit foods they love. Not only is that not appealing and not healthy for the body, but it doesn't lead to long term, successful weight loss. One of the simplest ways to lose weight is to make sure you're getting the protein that your body needs. If you're eliminating or severely limiting protein, or simply not paying attention to the fact that you're loading up on carbs and ignoring the protein aspect, then it could be one of the reasons why your weight loss journey has been a struggle. Your body was made to need protein. You need it from head to toe. The cells throughout your body have to have it. Without enough protein, you'll end up with thinning hair and weak nails. Your body will struggle to stay healthy - to keep your muscles and tissues in good working order. You'll suffer from a lack of certain hormones and you can damage your bones without having enough protein in your diet. But a huge reason that you need to eat protein might surprise you. You need protein because it gives you energy. And energy is what enables you to be able to do whatever it is that you need to do throughout the day. Lack of protein is a big reason why so many diets people have tried, fail. Who cares what foods you eat when you're so tired and so drained that all you want to do is collapse on the sofa and not move? Diets that don't include a focus on protein will eventually wear you out and you won't want to stick to them. And you shouldn't. You need protein to give you the right amount of energy that will sustain you all the way through your journey to weight loss success. Let me show you how to get enough protein in your diet and how protein helps you with your weight loss efforts.

In this day of age, we have come a long way compared to the cavemen that once walked our planet. Technology has completely changed our world (and not always for the better when it comes to health and fitness). It has made it easier for us to harvest and gather crops and kill animals for meat. - just go to the grocery store. It has become so advanced that fruits, vegetables and animal products are being mass produced at a large scale to accommodate a huge population of people. Cavemen used to have to walk and sprint for days (bodyweight exercise) to feed their family and there certainly wasn't enough food to feed outside their clan, or last for more than a couple of days. While this may seem terrible, this kind of activity kept them fit even when not fully fed. Now that we have all this technology helping us gather our food it has created a negative impact on our population. We have now become sedentary throughout our days and barely even have to get up to make our own food. Instead of hunting for some meat, we drive to our local grocery store, or butcher shop. Instead of picking from fruit trees, we pick it up at the store or even have it delivered to our house. These conveniences, we have created to make our lives easier, have made us motionless, overweight and unhealthy. In order to combat our now sedentary way of life, we have created gyms that provide a means to fitness but these machines only help us so much. Most of these machines only target specific areas of the body and cause us to do motions our body was not efficiently designed to do. Instead, we should be focusing on primal fitness using compound exercises with just our bodyweight to get us to ultimate health. Primal fitness, also called caveman fitness, is a combination of movements that your body was designed to do to help develop full body strength and health. It is also called functional fitness as it develops muscles used for everyday tasks. In other words, it is the practice of using your body and what nature has given you to remain fit and healthy. Nature can provide an unlimited amount of resistance and endurance in a way that gyms just cannot deliver. Cavemen needed to be fit in order to get their food and survive out in the wild. These activities probably included walking for miles, sprinting, crawling, swimming and climbing; to name a few. These examples are all great examples of what primal fitness entails. Now that you do not need to hunt or gather your own food, due to great technological advances, primal fitness can be evolved into a more modern way to mimic these movements. Paleo devotees are dedicated to the pursuit of health and fitness through a diet free of processed foods, wheat products that bloat and fatigue the body, and filled with energy-yielding foods that power their workouts. When you view how these workouts and this diet complement each other, you can see how this program could work for you.
