In quelle quattr'ottave, c'e uno strazio da non dirsi del poeta e dell'uomo, che si ravvisa ormai solo e derelitto nel vasto mondo, tra la folla sconosciuta, poiche le anime, alle quali avea cantato i primi, non ascoltano i versi seguenti; cui ogni incerto fantasma del suo poema e una reminiscenza de' primi amori ed amicizie: e rinnovella il duolo; cui quanto sparve saldamente appare. Il poeta stesso non vede in quelle forme se non mera nebbia; e per lui non hanno altra parte di saldo e d'efficace fuorche l'allusione, la reminiscenza del sentito e del provato in altr'epoca.
