The Complete History of the British Martyrs From the Roman Occupation to Elizabeth's Reign is a book written by William Canon Fleming. It provides a comprehensive account of the history of British martyrs from the time of the Roman occupation to the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. The book is divided into several chapters, each focusing on a particular period in British history and the events that led to the martyrdom of Christians during that time. The book begins by discussing the early Christian martyrs during the Roman occupation of Britain, including Saint Alban, the first British martyr. It then moves on to explore the persecution of Christians during the Anglo-Saxon period, the Norman Conquest, and the reigns of Henry VIII and his daughter, Queen Mary I. The author also examines the lives and deaths of lesser-known martyrs, including priests, nuns, and laypeople who were executed for their faith. He provides detailed accounts of their trials, their last words, and the circumstances surrounding their deaths. Throughout the book, the author emphasizes the courage and faith of the British martyrs, who were willing to die rather than renounce their beliefs. He also highlights the impact that their deaths had on the development of Christianity in Britain. Overall, The Complete History of the British Martyrs From the Roman Occupation to Elizabeth's Reign is a valuable resource for anyone interested in the history of Christianity in Britain and the sacrifices made by those who fought to preserve their faith.1904. The history of what English Catholics have suffered, both before and since the Reformation, to preserve their Apostolic faith, is faithfully recorded in the lives of the glorious multitudes of British martyrs. The sufferings of the martyrs before the 16th century are briefly alluded to in the writings of the pre-Reformation historians. This book endeavors to give a complete history of the English martyrs from the Roman occupation until the beginnings of Queen Elizabeth's reign. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
