Despite her unwelcoming introduction into Carpathia, Thecla eventually adopts it as her new home. Forced to serve under the strict orders that Bishop Kato set forth to keep Thecla under his control, she comes to learn some hard truths about her new religious community. Still feeling like an outsider, Thecla finds solace in Quintus' friendship not realizing that it comes at a price.
