Lawrence is the greatest pop star you have never heard of, his dreams of glory thwarted over the past five decades by bad luck and self-sabotage. At sixty-one, he set off on a new mission: to escape poverty, obscurity and the humiliation of kids at the bus stop laughing at him by writing a smash hit. But what is the cost of a dream? In 1979, Lawrence formed Felt, who released ten albums and ten singles in ten years before splitting up. In 1991, he reinvented himself with novelty-pop outfit Denim. Signed to EMI, riding the wave of Britpop, in 1997, Denim's song 'Summer Smash' became Radio 1's Single of the Week and looked like a sure-fire hit. Then Princess Diana was killed in a car crash. All copies were melted down. Crushing depression, addiction and homelessness followed... but in the face of it all, Lawrence never gave up. In Street-Level Superstar, bestselling author and journalist Will Hodgkinson follows Lawrence as he rebuilds his life. He gets mistaken for an old lady by an amorous pensioner, is reduced to dragging sacks of 2p coins to his local bank and wanders through London's distant suburbs in search of lyrical inspiration. As they walk together down rain-soaked streets, Will tells the story of Britain's most eccentric cult star. Will he write the greatest song the world has ever known before the year is out? And was it worth sacrificing everything - family, relationships, health, sanity - for art?

But the band's story is one of enormous triumph and also unimaginable tragedy. There has never been a band in the history of music riven with as much romantic drama, sexual tension and incredible highs and lows as Fleetwood Mac. Dreams is a must-read for casual Fleetwood Mac fans and die-hard devotees alike. In the unique 'A to Z' format, consisting of mini-biographies, observations and essays, Mark Blake explores all eras of the Fleetwood Mac story to explore what it is that has made them one of the most successful bands in history. Blake draws on his own exclusive interviews with Mick Fleetwood, Stevie Nicks, Lindsey Buckingham and the late Peter Green and Christine McVie, and addresses the complex human drama at the heart of the Fleetwood Mac story, including the complicated relationships between the band's main members, but he also dives deep into the towering discography that the band have built over the past half-century.
When a stressed-out Wolf tells his four-year-old daughter Nina that he can only spend ten more minutes reading her bedtime stories before getting back to work, she wishes that they could have a million minutes together 'on the really good things. Let's go so far away, until we have time,' she says. While Nina is physically disabled, Wolf feels that what really makes her different is her complete freedom of thought, uninhibited by political correctness and unlimited by the restrictions of 'reality'. As Wolf comes to understand the magnitude of his daughter's condition, he starts to reconsider what is most important in life. Despite a huge break-through in a profession he has worked so hard to make his mark on, he decides to step off the career ladder. Colleagues claim he is ruining his life, but Wolf slowly learns that fulfilling Nina's wish is worth much more than professional success. Wolf, his wife Vera, his son Simon and Nina spend a million minutes - two years - travelling through Thailand, Australia, and New Zealand, but the real journey is one of personal discovery. Wolf may have wanted the high-flying, well-paid career before Nina was born, but what does he want now? And what does it really mean to be rich, anyway? Nina's unique, frequently humorous world view teaches Wolf about the deeper meaning of life, and inspires him to question his values. What starts out as a simple experiment will forever change Wolf's family: what happens when people take a million minutes for each other?
