This book focuses on recent advancement in the theory and realization of machine intelligence (MI) and their tools and growing applications such as machine learning, deep learning, quantum machine learning, real-time computer vision, pattern recognition, natural language processing, statistical modelling, autonomous vehicles, human interfaces, computational intelligence, and robotics.

The Second International Congress on Photosynthesis Research took place in Stresa, Italy during June 24-29, 1971; two centuries after the discovery of Photosynthesis by Joseph Priestley in 1771. This important anniversary was celebrated at the Congress by a learned account of Priestley's life and fundamental discoveries given by Professor Robin HILL, F. R. S. Professor HILL's lecture opens the first of the three volumes which contains the contributions presented at the Congress. The manuscripts have been distributed into three volumes. Volume I con­ tains contributions in the areas of primary reactions and electron transport; Volume II ion transport and photophosphorylation, and Volume III carbon assimilation, regulatory phenomena, developmental aspects, and from the two special sessions of the Congress devoted to evolution and photorespiration. It is realized that this division is necessarily somewhat arbitrary since many contributions relate to more than one of the above mentioned titles. However, the large number of contributions (over 3000 typed pages) made it impossible to publish the proceedings in less than three volumes. The printing of these volumes and the organization of the Congress were made possible by a contribution from the Consigio Nazionale delle Ricerche of Italy. This volume is the fourteenth classified bibliography of organic, organometallic and metal complex crystal structures prepared by the Cambridge Crystallo­ graphic Data Centre and published jointly with the International Union of Crystallography. The previous thirteen volumes covered the years 1935-81; the majority of references in the present volume pertain to structure analyses reported in the literature during 1981 and 1982. A few structures reported prior to 1981 and omitted in earlier volumes are also included. Volume 14 contains 4094 references to 4001 distinct chemical compounds with 2162 cross-references. Some 90% of these references were obtained by direct in-house scanning of 51 major journals; the remaining material was located by searching Chemical Abstracts and Bulletin Signa/etique. The table below summarizes the cut-off dates for the 25 direct-scan journals yielding most entries in Volume 14. The fully classified Chemical Diagram Index, first presented in Volume 13, is continued here. Volume 14 contains 3912 chemical structural diagrams, repre­ senting 98% of the compounds. The reasons for the omission of some diagrams are noted in the Introduction. This new index provides a rapid visual overview of compounds studied in 1981-82 and will, we hope, add greatly to the usefulness of the annual Bibliographies. The textual indexes in Volume 14 continue the system established in Volumes 9-13 and in the special volume Guide to the Literature 1935-76. The latter volume presents a set of cumulative indexes to the contents of Bibliographic Volumes 1-8.

These Conference Proceedings deal with the papers presented at the International Conference on Ion Exchange Processes (ION-EX '90) which was held at The North East Wales Institute of Higher Education, 9- 11 July 1990. The camera-ready paper format was chosen so that delegates could receive their copy on arrival at the Conference. The Proceedings include reviews of biological materials, inorganic ion exchangers, the nuclear industry, theoretical aspects and new advances. In addition, there are research papers dealing with industrial ion exchange procedures and new materials. The Proceedings should therefore be of interest to those who need to be brought up to date in the various aspects of processes which involve ion exchange and ion chromatography which are now accepted as important in analysis, separation processes and process control. In each of these areas there have been important developments which are herein described. Biographies of well-known scientists are also included to describe their efforts and experiences and surveys of their work and achievements and a modern interpretation of their legacy are presented.After the first two volumes, the papers in this third volume again cover a wide range within the field of the History of Mechanical Engineering with specific focus on MMS and will be of interest and motivation to the work (historical or not) of many.
