Hudibras V1 (1835) - Samuel Butler - Bog

Bag om Hudibras V1 (1835)

Hudibras V1 is a satirical poem written by Samuel Butler and first published in 1663. The poem is divided into three parts, each containing several cantos, and tells the story of the eponymous character, Sir Hudibras, a Puritan knight who is a caricature of the religious and political hypocrisy of the time. In the first volume, the reader is introduced to Sir Hudibras and his squire, Ralpho. The two set out on a series of misadventures, encountering various characters along the way, including a witch, a bear-baiter, and a group of drunken revellers. Butler's writing is characterized by its wit, wordplay, and use of literary allusions, making it a challenging read for modern audiences. However, the poem remains an important work of English literature and a significant example of the satirical tradition. This 1835 edition of Hudibras V1 includes illustrations by George Cruikshank, a prominent artist and caricaturist of the time, which add to the humorous and satirical tone of the poem. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
