MIAMI MURALIST Serge Toussaint - Rachel Goldberg - Bog

Bag om MIAMI MURALIST Serge Toussaint

Originally from Haiti, Serge Toussaint moved to New York when he was 12, and then moved to Miami as a young adult. He has been painting Miami's neighborhoods since his arrival. He is a talented artist with a knack for painting immense portraits and vibrant scenes. This book shows his artwork throughout Miami-Dade. His commentary accompanies the photography of Rachel Goldberg. Press release: Miami, FL.-Haitian artist Serge Toussaint's murals, painted on various buildings throughout Miami's Little Haiti, have become as much a part of the community as the people, shops, and restaurants that span the twenty something block radius located just north of the Design District. Photographer and editor Rachel Goldberg recently published a book of Toussaint's murals that not only provides a visually compelling tale of the artist's body of work, but also commentary, a commentary as colorful and lively as his murals, from the artist himself. Toussaint's murals reflect Little Haiti everyday life- the images of the botanicas, Martin Lutehr King portraits on the street titled so, images of Tupac and Notorious BIG in Overtown. He wants the viewer to think that anything in any area- politics, graffiti, beauty salon advertisements - can be turned into art. Miami Muralist is dedicated to Toussaint's mother who passed away in 2009. He writes, "She started seeing growth, she started being proud of me, and I stopped being the bad guy." A list of locations with the exact addresses where Toussaint's work can be seen is cited on the back two pages of the book. And a portion of each sale will be donated to relief efforts to help rebuild Haiti after the 2010 earthquake.
