In a most clever fashion, she takes us through a young girl's emigration from Eastern Europe in the early years of the twentieth century. The story flashes quite smoothly from the recent past of the midfifties to the earlier time and back again. The chapters are laden with vivid descriptions, beautiful feelings, humor, and wonder.
