From the very beginning of the whole fiasco, Virgil Calahan, Jr. - Cal to his friends - hated Crowley. There were plenty of reasons, Crowley was self-centered, rude, and happened to steal away the love of Cal's life. Cal could have overlooked all of the man's shortcomings if it had not been for Crowley's romantic involvement with Cherry.
