It came soon enough, but the deafening thunder caught her by surprise, for she had barely had enough time to count to one. In a matter of seconds, the rain started coming down in large, fast, painful drops. Tracy's head knew that she had to get back home as quickly as possible, but her legs wouldn't cooperate, planted in place by that other part of her brain that was convinced that freezing to death out here was better than ever going back to that depressing house. She crossed the street without looking, stepping into every single puddle that was in her way. She climbed the porch steps and stood at the top, panting and shaking the rain off of her. "Yeah," Tracy breathed and her eyes involuntarily started traveling down the girl's body. Catching herself, she swiftly brought them up to her face again. "Isn't it sort of ironic, though, how you wanted to protect me from pneumonia when you're out here half-naked? At least I'm wearing a coat." "There are different rules for people with icy cold hearts," the girl said, and the cigarette smoke playfully danced out of her lips, as if she was actually exhaling ice.
