This edited collection brings together scholars and practitioners in every chapter to provide a comprehensive and unique exploration of courts in Australia. The primary focus is to identify controversies, challenges and change, in the form of potential reforms within the courts across Australian jurisdictions. Bringing forward original research and scholarship on a wide array of courts in Australia, combined with insightful practitioner perspectives, research will be effectively integrated with practice. This open access edited book investigates European social rights in practice from socio-legal perspectives. It brings together fourteen socio-legal scholars, representing Nordic and Western European countries, who analyse different aspects pertaining to European social rights, namely the regulation of social rights, encounters between welfare professionals and citizens, and citizens¿ mobilisation of social rights. These three different aspects form the structure for the sections in the anthology, each analysing transformations related to regulation, encounters and rights mobilisation. The book contributes to the existing literature as it focuses on interdependent transformations on macro, meso and micro levels which are key for understanding processes and contexts related to European social rights in practice. It speaks particularly to academics in sociology of law and/or regulation.

The burden of achieving gender equality is typically placed on women, limiting men'sinvolvement in the movement. In contrast to work focusing on women's experiences as targets ofdiscrimination, we propose a solidarity-based approach positioning men and women as agents ofchange, which relies on two key processes: leadership - particularly leadership as a form ofinfluence based on shared identities among leaders and followers; and political solidarity as a wayto mobilise the silent majority (men) to work as allies beside a minority (women) and embraceequality as a common cause for both groups.This thesis examines how to mobilise a broader audience for gender equality, and howleadership and social identity dynamics affect that mobilisation. Three empirical programs(totalling six experiments) investigate how best to increase women's and men's support forequality. Key independent variables of interest are leader gender, message framing, and socialidentity. Program 1 examines whether solidarity-based frames are more effective than traditionalframes which focus on either fixing (Experiment 1; N = 338) or blaming women (Experiment 2;N = 336). Program 2 investigates how emphasising different levels of subgroup andsuperordinate identities (Experiment 3; N = 251; Experiment 4; N = 319) affects men'smobilisation. Program 3 investigates whether positioning men as being responsible for genderinequality (Experiment 5; N = 258), or being fellow victims of gender inequality (Experiment 6;N = 543) affects their mobilisation.

This book critically analyses the way in which traditional sociocultural and legal biases might be perpetuated against those with unknown ¿ or unknowable ¿ genetic ancestries. It looks to law and works of literature across differing eras and genres focussing upon such concepts as inherited stigma, illegitimacy, orphanisation, adoption, othering, reunion, and the ¿right¿ to access truths that relate to one¿s original identity. ¿This open access book explores how legal proceedings in and out-of-court can be matched to the complex problems underlying disputes concerning child custody, residence and contact between parents. It focusses in particular on Nordic experiences of in and out-of-court mechanisms as means of resolving custody disputes. The contributors are internationally renowned and experienced researchers from the legal, psychological, and sociological fields who provide empirical as well as legal perspectives. They examine central legal, ethical and knowledge-based dilemmas in custody dispute proceedings. This book critically examines the development of the 'stirring up hatred' offences which are currently found within the UK's Public Order Act 1986. Through a critical discourse analysis of key excerpts of parliamentary Hansard, the book constructs a detailed genealogy of the offences from the perspectives that shaped them. A novel application of theory on 'myth' is used to navigate the complex arguments and to trace ideas about identity and order across parliamentary debates, from fears of Fascism in the 1930s to condemnations of homophobia in the early 21st century. The story of the stirring up hatred offences told in this book therefore extends far beyond the traditional frame of a dilemma between regulating hate speech and safeguarding free speech: it is inextricably entwined with myths about law, race and national identity, and speaks to wider themes of coloniality, neoliberalism, white entitlement, British-Christian exceptionalism and the innocence of law. This descriptive qualitative study delves into the often-overlooked realm of sexual safety in nightlife settings, amplifying the voices of gender and sexuality minorities. With a focus on identity-specific experiences, needs, and ideas, the research challenges the predominant narrative centered on cisgender heterosexual individuals. Through semi-structured interviews with 40 gender and sexuality minority participants engaged in New York City nightlife, a nuanced understanding of sexual safety emerges.
