Many Muslim want to repent and change but do not know the practical steps to do so.② This exercise workbook is intended to be used in a group or family study setting for recording exercise answers with one of the two main study editions, but it DOES NOT contain an answer key.③ Language: English ④ The importance of this subject has been indicated by many scholars of the Sunnah past and present. The noble scholar Ibn al-Qayyim, may Allaah have mercy upon him, mentioned in his work 'Madaarij as-Saalikeen', 'The purification of the self or soul and its becoming rectified is dependent upon it being called to account and assessed. There is no purification or rectification nor any possibility of it being brought to a state of well-being except through calling oneself to account."al-Hasan al-Basree, may Allaah have mercy upon him, said, "As for the believer, then you do not see him, in other state except as one who steps forth and confronts himself says: Why did I make such and such statement? Why did I eat such and such food? Why did I go to such and such place? What do I do this thing? What did I engage in that matter? By Allaah, I will not fall into that again, and what is similar to theses statements. He takes himself to account looking at his shortcomings and deficiencies. So that he has the opportunity to try and fix, and rectify them'Yet this self rectification or purification of the soul must be done in the correct way and upon the correct foundation if it is to be successful. Ibn al-Qayyim, may Allaah have mercy upon him, also stated, 'The true purification of the soul and the self is directly connected to those messengers sent to humanity. Certainly Allaah sent messengers for the purpose of this purification of souls, and commanded them to pursue this, and brought it about through their hands, through efforts of calling, teaching, and guiding the people. They were sent to guide the various nations of the earth......There is no path to truly cure and rectify the hearts except by means of their revealed paths and through their hands as messengers, and through purely surrendering and complying to their guidance. And we seek Allaah's assistance in our affairs'

The well-known noble scholar of hadeeth Muhammad Naasiruddeen Al-Albanee, may Allaah have mercy upon him, said, "And the reality is, in respect to myself, when I was in my first days of seeking knowledge Allaah, the Most Glorified and the Most Exalted, guided me to understanding the importance of purely worshiping Allaah alone without any partners or associates, and I came to be aware of the state which the Muslim world was living in of being far away from properly realizing this essential worship of Allaah alone. I used to suppose that the problem facing the Muslim world was only their being far from properly understanding the meaning of the statement "La ilaha illa Allaah" ( there is none worthy of worship except Allaah). However, after some time it became clear to me that there was also another problem which was directly connected to this first fundamental issue, meaning the problem of the Muslims being far from properly understanding the meaning of the statement of tawheed. This additional problem, being that the majority of the Muslims were not truly reflecting the authentic character and behavior of Islaam except to a very small and minimal degree."(Fataawa Jeddah - Cassette 34)

It is intended for both the person who has newly embraced Islaam or that Muslim or Muslimah whom Allaah has blessed to now have the resolve within themselves to truly turn towards their Most Merciful Lord and commit themselves to becoming a better worshipper upon knowledge. ② This exercise workbook is intended to be used in a group or family study setting for recording exercise answers with one of the two main study editions, but it DOES NOT contain an answer key.③ Language: English ④ We must take and use the incredible blessing we have in Islaam and strengthen our connection to our Lord and His chosen path and way of life, and furthermore protect it from what would harm it or stifle its growth within our individual lives. Maalik ibn Dinar, may Allaah have mercy on him, is reported to have said: "Faith or our emaan begins in the heart weak and feeble like a sprout or seedling. If its owner takes care of it and nourishes it with portions of beneficial knowledge and righteous deeds, and keeps away from it overshadowing weeds and things that will make it weak, it will soon grow and expand. It will develop in both its roots and branches, and then bear fruit and provide continual shade, until it becomes like a mountain. But if its owner neglects it and does not take care of it, then like a plant seedling, a goat may come and eat it, or a child might come and pluck it out, or the weeds around it will grow and overshadow it until they cause it wither away. Our emaan is the same way."Similarly Khaythamah ibn 'Abd al-Rahmaan, may Allaah have mercy on him, said, "Faith grows strong in fertile soil and grows weak in arid soil. Its fertile soil is righteous deeds and its arid soil is sin and disobedience."[Both these statements quoted by Ibn Taymeeyah in mentioned in the work Kitaab al-Eemaan, p. 213]The road to our success as Muslims individually, and as an Ummah is simple and clear if we turn towards and take firm hold of the enduring guidance we have been sent, but this clarity does not mean that the road is easy or without any difficulty. One matter that may help a new Muslim, is knowing that Allaah has a specific role for them in their truly aiding and helping Islaam. As it is affirmed as Allaah's way to bring new people into Islaam to support and establish His religion. It is narrated in Sunan Ibn Maajah and the Musnad of Imaam Ahmad, that Bakr bin Zur'ah narrated to us saying: "I heard Abu 'Inabah Al-Khawlaanee, who had prayed facing both prayer directions of ritual prayer with the Messenger of Allaah, may Allaah's praise and salutations be upon him, say: 'I heard the Messenger of Allaah, may Allaah's praise and salutations be upon him, say {Allaah will continue to cultivate new people in this religion and utilize them in His obedience.} Sheikh al-Albaanee, may Allaah have mercy upon him, authenticated this narration in the work Silsilaat al-Hadeeth as-Saheehah]...."
