Agent-based modeling/simulation is an emergent approach to the analysis of social and economic systems. This book includes selected papers presented at the Sixth International Workshop on Agent-Based Approaches in Economic and Social Complex Systems held in Taipei in 2009.
This book addresses increasingly relevant social problems enabled by social media through the lens of system science research and modeling. Instead of evaluating existing patterns from existing social media data, the book focuses on exploring the possibility of various policies. Specifically, it provides fresh insight into the political echo chamber and polarization in social media using agent-based modeling and scenario analysis. The book contains a practical framework to study the factors influencing echo chambers and polarization formation occurring in social media communication. By modeling individual social media users' information consumption, the influence of various behaviors and policies are captured as macro-phenomena. The book also introduces a comprehensive agent-based reinterpretation of the Zaller model, a classic in public opinion research. In addition, the book demonstrates two real-life applications of the model using empirical observations: resolving theconflicting observations of the online echo chamber effect, and modeling the influence of vaccine-related Facebook pages on users¿ opinions about vaccination.
This book includes many cases that provide new perspectives in developing agent-based modeling and simulation.
The intention behind this book is to illustrate the deep relation among human behavior, data-centric science, and social design. Fundamental principles of human behavior, theoretical models of human behavior, and information cascades are addressed as aspects of human behavior.

Agent-based modeling/simulation is an emergent approach to the analysis of social and economic systems. This book includes selected papers presented at the Eighth International Workshop on Agent-Based Approaches in Economic and Social Complex Systems held in Tokyo, Japan, in 2013.
This book includes selected papers presented at the Seventh International Workshop on Agent-Based Approaches in Economic and Social Complex Systems held in Osaka, Japan, in 2012.At the workshop, 24 reviewed full papers were presented, and of those, 17 were selected to be included in this volume.

Decision makers in large scale interconnected network systems require simulation models for decision support. This book provides a practical introduction to agent-based modelling of socio-technical systems, based on a methodology that has been developed at TU Delft and which has been deployed in a large number of case studies.
Bringing together diverse approaches to social simulation and research agendas, this book presents a unique collection of contributions from the First World Congress on Social Simulation, held in 2006 in Kyoto, Japan.

Stock market prices constantly change depending on speculation. U-Mart, a manmade market, has been invented to study these moving markets. Although the system is acclaimed, its use is by no means limited to a small number of researchers.
The chapters of this book are the selected papers from those presented at the Third International Workshop on Agent-Based Approaches in Economic and Social Complex Systems held in Tokyo, Japan in 2005.
This collection of excellent papers cultivates a new perspective on agent-based social system sciences, gaming simulation, and their hybridization.

This volume integrates different viewpoints on self-organization through inquiry into the structure of the self and through self-reflexion. It opens a new horizon for the synthesis of planning/control action theory and spontaneous/performative action theory.

This book thoroughly prepares intermediate-level readers for research in social science, organization studies, economics, finance, marketing science, and business science as complex adaptive systems.
