Duanmu Hongliang (1912-1996) was one of the most talented writers in the modern period of Chinese literature. His poetry, prose, painting, and calligraphy are all works of art, and each has its unique style. Some of his short stories from the 1940s remain as lasting literary treasures.
This collection carries some of Xiao Hong's most famous short stories such as ""On the Oxcart"", ""Spring in a Small Town"", ""The Family Outsider"", ""Flight from Danger"", ""Vague Expectations"", ""Hands"" and ""The Bridge"".
Camel Xiangzi registers a new approach to the representation of China in its absurdist situation. The novel shows Lao She at his best, the work of a mature writer, who excels in his mastery of narrative techniques, as well as his prophetic vision of the future of China.
