From the reviews: "A well-written, very thorough account ... Among the topics are lattices, reduction, Minkowskis Theorem, distance functions, packings, and automorphs; some applications to number theory; excellent bibliographical references." The American Mathematical Monthly
From the reviews: "This book is an excellent presentation of the application of martingale theory to the theory of Markov processes, especially multidimensional diffusions. [...] This monograph can be recommended to graduate students and research workers but also to all interested in Markov processes from a more theoretical point of view."
From the reviews: "Although several textbooks on modern algebraic geometry have been published in the meantime, Mumford's "Volume I" is, together with its predecessor the red book of varieties and schemes, now as before one of the most excellent and profound primers of modern algebraic geometry. Both books are just true classics!"
They can also be applied to algebraic geometry because the complement of a hyperplane section of an algebraic manifold is holo morphically complete. HODGE have dealt successfully with problems on integrals of the second kind on algebraic manifolds with the help of sheaf theory.
Springer is reissuing a selected few highly successful books in a new, inexpensive softcover edition to make them easily accessible to younger generations of students and researchers. Springer-Verlag began publishing books in higher mathematics in 1920. This is a reprint of the Second Edition.
From the Reviews: "Gihman and Skorohod have done an excellent job of presenting the theory in its present state of rich imperfection." --D.W. Stroock, Bulletin of the American Mathematical Society, 1980
This book offers a well-organized, easy-to-follow introduction to combinatorial theory, with examples, notes and exercises. ". . . a very good introduction to combinatorics. This book can warmly be recommended first of all to students interested in combinatorics." Publicationes Mathematicae Debrecen
From the reviews: "This is a book of interest to any having to work with differential equations, either as a reference or as a book to learn from. The authors have taken trouble to make the treatment self-contained. It (is) suitable required reading for a PhD student." --New Zealand Mathematical Society, 1985
, from Chapter IX (Analytical Theory of Semi-groups) directly to Chapter XIII (Ergodic Theory and Diffusion Theory) and to Chapter XIV (Integration of the Equation of Evolution).
Kodaira is a Fields Medal Prize Winner. (In the absence of a Nobel prize in mathematics, they are regarded as the highest professional honour a mathematician can attain.)Kodaira is an honorary member of the London Mathematical Society. Affordable softcover edition of 1986 classic
From the reviews: "...a fine book [...] When it appeared in 1949 it was a pioneer. But Hasse has something extra to offer.[...] Hasse proved that miracles do happen in his five beautiful papers on quadratic forms of 1923-1924. [...]It is trite but true: Every number-theorist should have this book on his or her shelf."
Hestenes in Journal of Optimization Theory and Applications"The work intertwines in masterly fashion results of classical analysis, topology, and the theory of manifolds and thus presents a comprehensive treatise of the theory of multiple integral variational problems."L.
The main characteristic of this classic exposition of the inverse scattering method and its applications to soliton theory is its consistent Hamiltonian approach to the theory.
Part of a treatise on linear partial differential equations, this title is useful for anybody interested in the theory of partial differential operators.
Author received the 1962 Fields MedalAuthor received the 1988 Wolf Prize (honoring achievemnets of a lifetime)Author is leading expert in partial differential equations
Since its first publication in 1965 in the series Grundlehren der mathematischen Wissenschaften this book has had a profound and enduring influence on research into the stochastic processes associated with diffusion phenomena.
"This book is a major treatise in mathematics and is essential in the working library of the modern analyst." (Bulletin of the London Mathematical Society)
The main change in this edition is the inclusion of exercises with answers and hints. To a large extent the exercises have been taken over from courses or examinations given by Anders Melin or myself at the University of Lund.
From the reviews: "This book [...] defines the boundaries of the subject now called combinatorial group theory. [...] it is a considerable achievement to have concentrated a survey of the subject into 339 pages. [...] a valuable and welcome addition to the literature, containing many results not previously available in a book.
From the reviews: "The work is one of the real classics of this century; it has had much influence on teaching, on research in several branches of hard analysis, particularly complex function theory, and it has been an essential indispensable source book for those seriously interested in mathematical problems."
From the reviews: "Theory of Stein Spaces provides a rich variety of methods, results, and motivations - a book with masterful mathematical care and judgement. It is a pleasure to have this fundamental material now readily accessible to any serious mathematician." --J. Eells in Bulletin of the London Mathematical Society (1980)
Few mathematical books are worth translating 50 years after original publication. It was published in German in 1924, and its English edition was widely acclaimed when it appeared in 1972. In the past, more of the leading mathematicians proposed and solved problems than today.
This is the first book which presents an overview of several striking results ensuing from the examination of Einstein's equations in the context of Riemannian manifolds. Parts of the text can be used as an introduction to modern Riemannian geometry through topics like homogeneous spaces, submersions, or Riemannian functionals.
From the Preface: (...) The book is addressed to students on various levels, to mathematicians, scientists, engineers. Instead of obstructing the access to the wealth of facts by lengthy discussions of a fundamental nature we have sometimes postponed such discussions to appendices in the various chapters.
From the reviews: "...one of the best textbooks introducing several generations of mathematicians to higher mathematics. ... This excellent book is highly recommended both to instructors and students." --Acta Scientiarum Mathematicarum, 1991

From the reviews "This book presents a complete treatment of a new class of random processes, which have been studied intensively during the last fifteen years. None of this material has ever appeared in book form before. The high quality of this work [...] makes a fascinating subject and its open problem as accessible as possible."
From the reviews: "Here is a momumental work by Doob, one of the masters, in which Part 1 develops the potential theory associated with Laplace's equation and the heat equation, and Part 2 develops those parts (martingales and Brownian motion) of stochastic process theory which are closely related to Part 1".
From the reviews: "[...] An excellent textbook in the theory of linear operators in Banach and Hilbert spaces. It is a thoroughly worthwhile reference work both for graduate students in functional analysis as well as for researchers in perturbation, spectral, and scattering theory.
Volumes III and IV complete this treatise on linear partial differential equations. They constitute the most complete and up-to-date account of this subject by the author who has dominated it and made the most significant contributions in the last decades.
