In a brutal thunderstorm, a lone figure in a black cape appears out of nowhere atop the peak of an ancient building. The name Laktos pops into his mind, but everything else about his past eludes him. When nightmares about an unknown man plague Laktos, he treks across the post-apocalyptic landscape in search of answers. On the road to self-discovery, he crosses paths with other travelers who are in peril. Without hesitation, Laktos draws his broadsword to defend then. Grateful to their liberator, his new friends are ready to join Laktos on the treacherous journey ahead.
The world has long forgotten who the Ancients were and how they almost destroyed all life on Earth. Their once ultra-modern cities now lie in ruin. The passing centuries have rebirthed a medieval level of existence, but those who inhabit the planet are unaware of the still-active machines that could possibly end all life permanently. Humanity''s hope for survival will depend on what Laktos and his loyal companions do next.
Though the Ancients are long forgotten, one of their war satellites is orbiting the planet, ready to carry out its mission. It is a thinking machine with a brain that is entirely human, but utterly insane. Instead of being a defense weapon, it has a new goal of its own: to eliminate all life on the planet. Its only obstacle is an unlikely band of humans and animals who have joined forces to defeat it.
The presider has put out word that Laktos is to be found and killed. But Laktos and his freedom fighters are already heading for Capernaum to fight one final battle against the presider's evil dictatorship.
