One thing Nick Sibelius knows for sure-his wealthy new client, Texas entrepreneur Dan Hoyt, is all hat and no cattle. When an open and shut case of vandalism leaves more questions than answers, Nick must untangle a knot of egomania, desire, and greed. Unknown to Nick, his client, having made a deal with virtual gaming icon, Izzy Zydeco to partner in a desalination project, is already counting his money. And unknown to Hoyt, his new partner has bigger and more insidious plans requiring the betrayal of a major drug cartel and contaminating the Austin water supply for the next century. Working with a covert Homeland Security agent and past love, MaryLou, and his new colleague, Theresa, Nick must thwart Izzy and ultimately choose between justice and saving Theresa's life. H2O is up for grabs and Nick discovers in Texas, water is a deadly business.
Nick Sibelius' latest client, Dillon, appears to be the victim of a grudge between competitive bass fishermen. When suspects start dying at the hands of a serial killer known as the Musikillogist, he discovers Dillon has stumbled into a plot with national ramifications. Hoping to pass the case to the Texas Rangers, he is instead recruited to head the Governor's special task force. He learns the Governor's major campaign contributor and secret lover, Bruce Reynolds, has a plan to secede from the Union, resurrecting the Republic of Texas. Faced with Reynolds' serial killer hit woman and a remotely controlled drone air force, Nick makes a desperate attempt to prevent civil war, the destruction of the Governor's political career, and his client's unnatural demise. Secessionists, drones, and serial killers: nowhere else but Texas.
