This Festschrift has been published in honor of Rinus Plasmeijer, to celebrate the combined occasion of his 61st birthday and the 25th Symposium on Implementation and Application of Functional Languages, IFL 2013, held in Nijmegen, The Netherlands, in August 2013. Rinus Plasmeijer was the main designer of the lazy functional programming language "Clean" and has always been the leader of the associated research team. He has played a decisive role in making the Radboud University of Nijmegen an important center of research in functional programming by organizing and hosting the first few IFL symposia in Nijmegen. This Festschrift contains 19 scientific essays written by former PhD students of Rinus Plasmeijer and researchers in the field of functional programming who have collaborated with him. The authors write about the influence the beauty of functional programming has had or still has on their work.
This book constitutes the proceedings of the 8th International Workshop on Accelerator Programming Using Directives, WACCPD 2021, which took place in November 2021. The conference was held as hybrid event. WACCPD is one of the major forums for bringing together users, developers, and the software and tools community to share knowledge and experiences when programming emerging complex parallel computing systems. The 7 papers presented in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from 11 submissions. They were organized in topical sections named: Directive Alternatives; Directive Extensions; and Directive Case Studies.
FIDJI 2004 was an international forum for researchers and practitioners int- estedinthe advancesin,andapplicationsof,softwareengineeringfordistributed application development. Concerning the technologies, the workshop focused on "e;Java-related"e; technologies. It was an opportunity to present and observe the latest research, results, and ideas in these areas. Allpaperssubmittedtothisworkshopwerereviewedbyatleasttwomembers of the International Program Committee. Acceptance was based primarily on originality and contribution. We selected, for these post-workshop proceedings, 11 papers amongst 22 submitted, a tutorial and two keynotes. FIDJI2004aimedatpromotingascienti?capproachtosoftwareengineering. The scope of the workshop included the following topics: - design of distributed applications - development methodologies for software and system engineering - UML-based development methodologies - development of reliable and secure distributed systems - component-based development methodologies - dependability support during system life cycle - fault tolerance re?nement, evolution and decomposition - atomicity and exception handling in system development - software architectures, frameworks and design patterns for developing d- tributed systems - integration of formal techniques in the development process - formal analysis and grounding of modelling notation and techniques (e. g. , UML, metamodelling) - supporting the security and dependability requirements of distributed app- cations in the development process - distributed software inspection - refactoring methods - industrial and academic case studies - development and analysis tools The organization of such a workshop represents an important amount of work.
Embedded systems now include a very large proportion of the advanced products designed in the world, spanning transport (avionics, space, automotive, trains), electrical and electronic appliances (cameras, toys, televisions, home appliances, audio systems, and cellular phones), process control (energy production and distribution, factory automation and optimization), telecommunications (satellites, mobile phones and telecom networks), and security (e-commerce, smart cards), etc. The extensive and increasing use of embedded systems and their integration in everyday products marks a significant evolution in information science and technology. We expect that within a short timeframe embedded systems will be a part of nearly all equipment designed or manufactured in Europe, the USA, and Asia. There is now a strategic shift in emphasis for embedded systems designers: from simply achieving feasibility, to achieving optimality. Optimal design of embedded systems means targeting a given market segment at the lowest cost and delivery time possible. Optimality implies seamless integration with the physical and electronic environment while respecting real-world constraints such as hard deadlines, reliability, availability, robustness, power consumption, and cost. In our view, optimality can only be achieved through the emergence of embedded systems as a discipline in its own right.
The UML 2004 conference was held in Lisbon (Portugal) from October 11 through October 15, 2004. It was the seventh conference in a series of annual events that started in 1998. UML has rapidly become one of the leading venues to present and discuss the development of object-oriented modeling. In order to re?ect the changes in the ?eld, the UML conference series will be continued from 2005 onwards under the name MODELS (Model Driven En- neering, Languages and Systems). Inane?orttomakethisyear'sconferencemoreusefulande?ectiveforawider community, including academics and practitioners working in areas related to UML and modeling in general, a set of satellite events was organized, including workshopsdedicatedtospeci?cresearchtopics,anindustrytrack,aposter/demo session, and a tools exhibit. This volume is a compilation of the contributions presented at these satellite events. Workshops at UML 2004 took place during the ?rst three days of the conference(fromOctober10to12). Followingthetraditionofprevious UML conferences, UML 2004workshopsprovidedacollaborativeforumforgroups of (typically 15 to 30) participants to exchange recent or preliminary results, to conduct intensive discussions on a particular topic, or to coordinate e?orts between representatives of a technical community. Ten workshops were held, covering a variety of hot topics, which have been covered in the workshop - ports contained in this volume. Each workshop lasted for a full day. A novelty with respect to previous UML conferences was the inclusion of a Doctoral Symposium, which was well received, to provide an explicit space for young - searchers developing their thesis on some aspect related to UML.
Middleware provides an integration framework for multiple and potentially - verse computing platforms. It allows developers to engineer distributed appli- tions more easily, providing abstractions and primitives to handle distribution and coordination. Middlewareisconstantlyfacingnewchallenges.Today'sadvancesincomp- ing, including development of pervasive applications, exacerbates the diversity problem, introducing variations not only in terms of performance, but also in terms of environments and device characteristics. Software engineers are the- fore challenged both in the area of the development of new and scalable m- dleware systems, where open, heterogeneous, component-based platforms should provide richer functionality and services, and in the area of application devel- ment, where tools to simplify the use of middleware solutions are necessary. Software Engineering and Middleware is the premier workshop for the - search and practice community of software engineering working in both areas to presentanddiscussnewideasinthis?eld.SEM2004wasthefourthinternational workshop on software engineering and middleware of the EDO/SEM workshop series. Previous workshops of this series were successfully held in 2002, 2000 and 1999. Most of the proceedings have been published by Springer in the Lecture Notes in Computer Science series.
It is always a special honor to chair the European Dependable Computing C- ference (EDCC). EDCC has become one of the well-established conferences in the ?eld of dependability in the European research area. Budapest was selected as the host of this conference due to its traditions in organizing international scienti?c events and its traditional role of serving as a meeting point between East and West. EDCC-5 was the ?fth in the series of these high-quality scienti?c conf- ences. In addition to the overall signi?cance of such a pan-European event, this year's conference was a special one due to historic reasons. The roots of EDCC date back to the moment when the Iron Curtain fell. Originally, two groups of scientists from di?erent European countries in Western and Eastern Europe - who were active in research and education related to dependability created a - joint forum in order to merge their communities as early as in 1989. This trend has continued up to today. This year's conference was the ?rst one where the overwhelming majority of the research groups belong to the family of European nations united in the European Union. During the past 16 years we observed that the same roots in all the professional, cultural and scienti?c senses led to a seamless integration of these research communities previously separated ar- ?cially for a long time. EDCC has become one of the main European platforms to exchange new - searchideasinthe?eldofdependability.
Started on the inspired initiative of Prof. Alfred Strohmeier back in 1996, and spawned from the annual Ada-Europe conference that had previously run for 16 consecutive years, the International Conference on Reliable Software Technologies celebrated this year its tenth anniversary by going to York, UK, where the ?rst series of technical meetings on Ada were held in the 1970s. Besides being a beautiful and historical place in itself, York also hosts the Depa- ment of Computer Science of the local university, whose Real-Time Group has been tremendously in?uential in shaping the Ada language and in the progress on real-time computing worldwide. This year's conference was therefore put together under exc- lent auspices, in a very important year for the Ada community in view of the forthc- ing completion of the revision process that is upgrading the language standard to face the challenges of the new millennium. The conference took place on June 20-24, 2005. It was as usual sponsored by Ada-Europe, the European federation of national Ada societies, in cooperation with ACM SIGAda. The conference was organized by selected staff of the University of York teamed up with collaborators from various places in Europe, in what turned out to be a very effective instance of distributed collaborative processing. The conference also enjoyed the generous support of 11 industrial sponsors.
With SPLC 2005 we celebrated the formation of a new conference series, the International Software Product Line Conference (SPLC) which results from the "e;uni?cation"e; of the former series of three SPLC (Software Product Line) Con- rences launched in 2000 in the USA, and the former series of ?ve PFE (Product Family Engineering) Workshops started in 1996 in Europe. SPLC is nowthe premier forum for the growing community of software p- duct line practitioners, researchers, and educators. SPLC o?ers a unique - portunity to present and discuss the most recent experiences, ideas, innovations, trends,andconcernsintheareaofsoftwareproductlineengineering andtobuild aninternationalnetworkofproductlinechampions.AninternationalSPLCSt- ring Committee has been established and it is the wish of this committee that from 2005 on, the SPLC conference will be held yearly in Europe, America, or Asia. The technical program of SPLC 2005 included. - two keynotes from David Weiss (Avaya, USA) and Jan Bosch (Nokia, F- land), both leading experts with academic and industrial insights; - 17 full and 3 short research papers organized around the following themes: feature modeling, re-engineering, strategies, validation, scoping and arc- tecture, and product derivation; - eight experience reports describing commercial application of product line practices; - two panels focused on special topics in product line practice and product line research; - tool demonstrations; - aHallofFamesessionthatcontinuedtheSPLCtraditioninaslightlyrevised format. In addition, the technical program was preceded by a tutorial and workshop day that included ten half-day tutorials presented by well-recognized experts and ?ve workshops on speci?c areas of product line research.
As software systems become ubiquitous, the issues of dependability become more and more crucial. Given that solutions to these issues must be considered from the very beginning of the design process, it is reasonable that dependability is addressed at the architectural level. This book comes as a result of an effort to bring together the research communities of software architectures and dependability.This state-of-the-art survey contains 16 carefully selected papers originating from the Twin Workshops on Architecting Dependable Systems (WADS 2004) accomplished as part of the International Conference on Software Engineering (ICSE 2004) in Edinburgh, UK and of the International Conference on Dependable Systems and Networks (DSN 2004) in Florence, Italy. The papers are organised in topical sections on architectures for dependable services, monitoring and reconfiguration in software architectures, dependability support for software architectures, architectural evaluation, and architectural abstractions for dependability.
Welcome to the proceedings of PATMOS 2005, the 15th in a series of international workshops.PATMOS2005wasorganizedbyIMECwithtechnicalco-sponsorshipfrom the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society. Over the years, PATMOS has evolved into an important European event, where - searchers from both industry and academia discuss and investigate the emerging ch- lenges in future and contemporary applications, design methodologies, and tools - quired for the developmentof upcominggenerationsof integrated circuits and systems. The technical program of PATMOS 2005 contained state-of-the-art technical contri- tions, three invited talks, a special session on hearing-aid design, and an embedded - torial. The technical program focused on timing, performance and power consumption, as well as architectural aspects with particular emphasis on modeling, design, char- terization, analysis and optimization in the nanometer era. The Technical Program Committee, with the assistance of additional expert revi- ers, selected the 74 papers to be presented at PATMOS. The papers were divided into 11 technical sessions and 3 poster sessions. As is always the case with the PATMOS workshops, the review process was anonymous, full papers were required, and several reviews were carried out per paper. Beyond the presentations of the papers, the PATMOS technical program was - riched by a series of speeches offered by world class experts, on important emerging research issues of industrial relevance. Prof. Jan Rabaey, Berkeley, USA, gave a talk on "e;Traveling the Wild Frontier of Ulta Low-Power Design"e;, Dr. Sung Bae Park, S- sung, gave a presentation on "e;DVL (Deep Low Voltage): Circuits and Devices"e;, Prof.
