e., representations of natural and man-made features on the surface of the earth, thematic maps concentrate on displaying the geographical occurrence and varia tion of a single phenomenon - the "theme" of the map.
In the field of Hodgkin's lymphoma, many new data have been collected during the last decade both on the cell of origin of this disease and on more effective therapies to cure the majority of pa tients even in the advanced stages. Most of the recent progress stems from the establishment of permanent cell lines of Hand RS cells in culture.
The present volume concentrates on substantiated data first obtained from the study of tumors developing from hormone regulated or hormone-producing tissue, e.g., the thyroid, adrenal glands, prostate, and the female genital tract. Further improvements can be expected in the localization of hormones in tumor tissue by specific antibodies.
Pathobiology of Human Germ Cell Neoplasia is a state-of-the-art compendium on a very recent branch of tumor biology. Original data for this volume was supplied by experts in the fields of pathology, developmental biology, genetics, molecular biology and other related fields.
The various tumor types, including carcinoma of the prostate, transitional cell carcinoma, renal cell carcinoma, and testicular germ cell tumors, differ widely in terms of biological features, in cidence and appearance, diagnostic work-up and manage ment.
The incidence of lung cancer has reached epidemic proportions throughout the civilized world. One indication of the dimensions of this problem is that in the United States lung cancer has become the leading cause of cancer death in women as well as men.
EORTC Symposium, held in Paris on June 24/25, 1976. Sponsored by the Swiss League against Cancer
San Francisco (USA), May 21-22, 1979. Annual Program Review Symposium / US Japan Joint Agreement on Cancer Research
Data have been presented on 261 cases in which multiple carcinomas of the colon were seen at the Mayo Clinic from January 1, 1944, through December 31, 1953. When the diagnosis of a malignant lesion of the colon or rectum has been made, the entire large bowel must be considered a potential source of malignant disease.
The main topics discussed are: changes of metabolism and microcirculation under heat conditions, the biological interaction of heat with X-rays and several chemotherapeutic agents, and the most recent clinical data from different institutions on the combined application in the treatment of cancer.
Seventeen years ago Mr. HAYWARD came to work in the Breast Clinic at Guy's Hospital.
Symposium on Malignant Transformation by Viruses, the University of Chicago School of Medicine, February 26th and 27th, 1966
Gastrointestinal lymphomas have attracted increasing interest over the past few years and are a topic characterized by intensive and ongoing activity. Experts from all over the world came together to exchange their experiences and to discuss new concepts at an international symposium in Wurzburg, Germany, in 1998.
The second international symposium on "Supportive Care in Cancer Patients" took place March 1-3, 1990-again in St. Gallen in eastern Switzerland.
Yet infection remains the leading cause of death in cancer patients and is a major cause of morbidity and hospitaliza tion, making it a major aspect of the supportive care of cancer patients.
In 1971, a breakthrough was achieved with the isolation, structural analysis, and synthesis of the luteinizing hormone releasing hormone (LH-RH), or GnRH as it is now more appropriately termed, since it provokes the secretion of both gonadotropins, LH and FSH, and since then the progress made in this area of research has been remarkable.
This important book provides up-to-date information on a series of topical issues relating to the approach to minimal residual disease in breast cancer patients. It first explains how the study of minimal residual disease and circulating and disseminated tumor cells (CTCs/DTCs) can assist in the understanding of breast cancer metastasis.
Prostate cancer is by far the most common cancer in men and the second leading cause of death due to cancer. Prevention of prostate cancer and discrimination between aggressive and indolent forms are important clinical goals and the acquisition of significant new evidence on means of achieving these aims makes this book particularly timely.
The 1969 Proceedings of the Plenary Session of the European Organization for Research on Treatment of Cancer have been divided between two volumes of a com pletely different nature.
Extensive research into the molecular mechanisms of cancer has heralded a new age of targeted therapy. Numerous novel targets that are crucial for the survival of cancer cells can be attacked by small molecules such as protein tyrosine kinase inhibitors.
Symposium, University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, March 1972
It should give the reader up to date information on the indications for clinical lymphography and its interpretation, thereby de monstrating the limits of its diagnostic accuracy and stressing the great impor tance of the method for the evaluation of cancer patients.
Symposium on Normal and Malignant Cell Growth, The University of Chicago School of Medicine, February 24th and 25th, 1968
Over the past 50 years many in vitro and in vivo drug response assay systems have been developed to determine the potential - tivity of chemotherapy agents.
