The River Derwent in Cumbria is one of the fastest rivers in Europe. It is also one of the most beautiful, and it flows through fantastic and varied countryside from its source in the heart of the Lake District. The name Derwent translates as 'oak river' and/or 'river of oaks'; it is an ancient name. There is evidence of occupation and industry along the river from the Iron Age onwards, and industry still uses its power and speed as a water source. A fine and famous salmon river, the River Derwent was sometimes called 'the river of saints and sinners', as it was used by smugglers as well as clerics. Beginning at the river mouth, we follow the river through the port of Workington, through the lavish countryside of Cumbria to its source amidst the dramatic mountainous splendour of Borrowdale. Along the way, H. C. Ivison brings to light tales and stories of fascinating events, landmarks and people. River Derwent: From Sea to Source is essential reading for anyone who knows this river well, and also for those who are visiting the River Derwent for the first time.

Again follow River as she and her crew and Ship Space Wasp become involved in another adventure. Meet for the first time the newest member of the team, her name is Venom. After the loss of several research ships that had ventured into the Perseus Arm of the Milky Way River is sent out to locate and retrieve these ships or at the least the crews. She and Space Wasp fly into an adventure unlike anything they had ever experienced. River was to meet Tom Horn, probably the best known gunslinger out of the old Earth west and his family of scoundrels and adventurers. Little did she know this would be a situation that was generated from the past and was now coming to fruition, a well-planned and demented attempt at payback and final judgment. The past does come back and when it does it can be just about the most difficult and most demented event one would ever be faced with. The question is, does River have a solution for the situation she will find herself in. And yes it's directly related to the past and one Darian Ogala. That is not the only issue she will be faced with. While trying to recover the missing explorers she must also deal with an alien society that no one knew of and it was that society that was holding the missing explorers. She and her crew would be facing an armada of ships the size of which they had never seen. Not only that there would be two armadas and they would be from the same empire but on opposite sides of an on going revolution. It would be a contest of wills and planning. The side that is able to balance all elements of the contest will be the one to win. The only problem is that there are more players than there are hands to deal with them. Space Wasp will need each and every skill at its command to overcome this situation and deal with all the issues that are coming at her.

My name is Ty Penndergrass and I work for the Public Defender's Office for the United Earth Judicial System: Station 43. Shenandoah Kennedy came into my life and it would change everything. When I first met her she was tethered to a wall iron in a holding room. This lovely young lady was chained up as if she was the most dangerous individual in the United Earth System. When I considered the others sitting in that room with her, I found it hard to believe that she could be that bad or dangerous. Her most outstanding and visible feature was her green eyes. Those eyes could cut right through you. When you first see them and realize they are looking at you, well, your entire demeanor goes out the window. You can't take your eyes off of them. They captivate you and control you and that's not all. What you don't see is what is most astonishing. This young lady was the captain of the space ship Space Wasp. She was somewhere around 22 years old and went by the name River. Her father Theo Kennedy had been a high ranking officer in the Space Defense Force and he had retired under difficult circumstances and eventually purchased the Space Wasp and converted her into the most powerful space ship the System had ever seen or dealt with. River would need every bit of Space Wasp's capabilities to deal with Darian Ogala probably the most ruthless criminal in the System. Somehow he had managed to team up with the command of the Space Defense Force and was setting into motion a revolt against the United Earth System. River and Wasp were the only thing standing between Ogala and his success. I found myself an unwilling part of the challenge of River to Ogala's plans. I learned that space was a place where death is a never ending, always present threat to one life. So accustom do those who live and travel through space with the threat of instant and cataclysmic death, that the use it as a weapon is of now issue. River was well versed in the use of death against those that she stood against. Ogala would learn that the hard way as would the Space Defense Force leaders. You have to follow River as she deals with those that threaten her life, the lives of her crew and friends, and the destruction of Space Wasp.

Below the northern face of Cleeve Hill, a spring brings water to the surface. Here, the River Isbourne begins its journey. Within a matter of feet, the water is put to its first use by mankind. This book is a record of how, over the last thousand years, a small country river has been put to use by the local communities. The most common use of the river has been for watermills, with twenty-two sites identified, but many other diverse uses have also been found for the water of the River Isbourne, from swimming pools to tanning, and from ducking stools to 300-foot-high fountains. Little has been written about the mills of northern Gloucestershire and southern Worcestershire. Mike Lovatt provides details of the mills and the other uses on one river in the area so that this information at least is preserved for future generations. Within the pages of this fascinating, well-illustrated book, the reader is transported down the River Isbourne, from where it rises high on the Cotswold slopes and flows through the towns and villages of north Gloucestershire and south Worcestershire to where it somewhat insignificantly slides into the Avon at Evesham.

This beautifully illustrated and informative book allows the reader to submerge themselves in the vast wealth of history, folklore and outstanding beauty that lies along the Dove.

The River Frome in Dorset flows for some 30 miles from the chalk uplands of central Dorset into Poole Harbour near Wareham. Its source is St John's Well in the village of Evershot, and from here it flows through some of Dorset's most scenic and historic landscapes. The river passes a wide variety of settlements, including the county town of Dorchester, the Saxon walled town of Wareham, and picturesque villages such as Cattistock and Moreton. A fascinating array of historic features fill the valley: a railway built by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, earthworks of a Roman aqueduct and, most surprising of all, several miles of water meadow systems, which fertilised the land during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Called 'The Vale of the Great Dairies' in the works of Thomas Hardy, paths and lanes make it easy to explore the Frome valley and follow the river's course from Evershot to Wareham.
