Modeling is the process of formulating a mathematical description of the system. A model, no matter how detailed, is never a completely accurate representation of a real physical system. A mathematical model is always just an approximation of the true, physical reality of the system dynamics.Uncertainty refers to the differences or errors between model and real systems and whatever methodology is used to present these errors will be called an uncertainty model. Successful robust control-system design would depend on, to a certain extent, an appropriate description of the perturbation considered.Modeling the uncertainties in the switch mode DC-DC converters is an important step in designing robust controllers. This book studies different techniques which can be used to extract the uncertain model of DC-DC converters. Once the uncertain model is extracted, robust control techniques such as ¿¿¿¿¿ and ¿ synthesis can be used to design the robust controller. The book composed of two case studies. The first one is a buck converter and the second one is a Zeta converter. MATLAB® programming is used extensively throughout the book. Some sections use PLECS® as well. This book is intended to be guide for both academicians and practicing engineers.
This book/lecture is intended for a college freshman level class in problem solving, where the particular problems deal with electrical and electronic circuits. It can also be used in a junior/senior level class in high school to teach circuit analysis. The basic problem-solving paradigm used in this book is that of resolution of a problem into its component parts. The reader learns how to take circuits of varying levels of complexity using this paradigm. The problem-solving exercises also familiarize the reader with a number of different circuit components including resistors, capacitors, diodes, transistors, and operational amplifiers and their use in practical circuits. The reader should come away with both an understanding of how to approach complex problems and a "e;feel"e; for electrical and electronic circuits.
This book is intended for anyone trying to learn the fundamentals of computer programming. The chapters lead the reader through the various steps required for writing a program, introducing the MATLABr(R) constructs in the process. MATLABr(R) is used to teach programming because it has a simple programming environment. It has a low initial overhead which allows the novice programmer to begin programming immediately and allows the users to easily debug their programs. This is especially useful for people who have a "e;mental block"e; about computers. Although MATLABr(R) is a high-level language and interactive environment that enables the user to perform computationally intensive tasks faster than with traditional programming languages such as C, C++, and Fortran, the author shows that it can also be used as a programming learning tool for novices. There are a number of exercises at the end of each chapter which should help users become comfortable with the language.
This workbook integrates theory with the concept of engineering design and teaches troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving skills. It is intended to either accompany or follow a first circuits course, and it assumes no previous experience with breadboarding or other lab equipment. This workbook uses only those components that are traditionally covered in a first circuits course (e.g., voltage sources, resistors, potentiometers, capacitors, and op amps) and gives students clear design goals, requirements, and constraints. Because we are using only components students have already learned how to analyze, they are able to tackle the design exercises, first working through the theory and math, then drawing and simulating their designs, and finally building and testing their designs on a breadboard.
The investigation of the behavior of ferromagnetic particles in an external magnetic field is important for use in a wide range of applications in magnetostatics problems, from biomedicine to engineering. To the best of the author's knowledge, the systematic analysis for this kind of investigation is not available in the current literature. Therefore, this book contributes a complete solution for investigating the behavior of two ferromagnetic spherical particles, immersed in a uniform magnetic field, by obtaining exact mathematical models on a boundary value problem. While there are a vast number of common numerical and analytical methods for solving boundary value problems in the literature, the rapidly growing complexity of these solutions causes increase usage of the computer tools in practical cases. We analytically solve the boundary value problem by using a special technique called a bispherical coordinates system and the numerical computations were obtained by a computer tool. In addition to these details, we will present step-by-step instructions with simple explanations throughout the book, in an effort to act as inspiration in the reader's own modeling for relevant applications in science and engineering. On the other hand, the resulting analytical expressions will constitute benchmark solutions for specified geometric arrangements, which are beneficial for determining the validity of other relevant numerical techniques. The generated results are analyzed quantitatively as well as qualitatively in various approaches. Moreover, the methodology of this book can be adopted for real-world applications in the fields of ferrohydrodynamics, applied electromagnetics, fluid dynamics, electrical engineering, and so forth. Higher-level university students, academics, engineers, scientists, and researchers involved in the aforementioned fields are the intended audience for this book.
Measurement is the process of obtaining the magnitude of a quantity relative to an agreed standard. Electronic measurement, which is the subject of this book, is the measurement of electronic quantities like voltage, current, resistance, inductance, and capacitance, to name a few. This book provides practical information concerning the techniques in electronic measurements and knowledge on how to use the electronic measuring instruments appropriately. The book is composed of five chapters. Chapter 1 focuses on digital multimeters. You will learn how to use it for measurement of AC/DC voltages/currents, resistance, connection test, and diode forward voltage drop test. Chapter 2 focuses on power supplies. Although power supplies are not a measurement device, they have an undeniable role in many measurements. So, being able to use power supplies correctly is quite important. Chapter 3 focuses on function generators. Like the power supplies, the function generators are not a measurement device in the first look. However, they play a very important role in many electronic measurements. So, being able to use a function generator correctly is an important skill any technician or engineer needs. Chapter 4 focuses on oscilloscopes. These days, digital oscilloscopes are the most commonly used tool in both industry and university. Because of this, this chapter focuses on digital oscilloscopes not on the analog ones which are almost obsolete. Chapter 5 focuses on drawing graph of data you obtained from your measurement. Visualization of data is very important in practical works. This chapter show how you can use MATLAB for drawing the graph of your measurements. This book could be used a laboratory supplement for students of electrical/mechanical/mechatronics engineering, for technicians in the field of electrical/electronics engineering, and for anyone who is interested to make electronic circuits.
This book provides insights into practical aspects of electric circuits. The author provides real-world examples throughout this book. The devices chosen for this book can be found in nearly all laboratories. No expensive measurement devices are used throughout the book. Someone who reads this book has a better understanding of practical aspects of electric circuits. Chapter 1 introduces tools that will be used in the next chapters. Chapter 2 studies the resistors and contains 9 experiments. Chapter 3 studies the digital multimeters and contains 7 experiments. Chapter 4 studies Kirchhoff's voltage/current law, nodal/mesh analysis and Thevenin equivalent circuits. This chapter contains 5 experiments. Chapter 5 studies the first and second order circuits (RC, RL and RLC) and contains 4 experiments. Chapter 6 studies the DC and AC steady state behavior of electric circuits and frequency response of filters and has 5 experiments. Chapter 7 studies magnetic coupling and transformers and contains 3 experiments. Appendix A shows how different types of graphs can be drawn with MATLAB. Appendix B reviews the concept of root mean square.
This is a book for a lab course meant to accompany, or follow, any standard course in electronic circuit analysis. It has been written for sophomore or junior electrical and computer engineering students, either concurrently with their electronic circuit analysis class or following that class. This book is appropriate for non-majors, such as students in other branches of engineering and in physics, for which electronic circuits is a required course or elective and for whom a working knowledge of electronic circuits is desirable. This book has the following objectives: 1. To support, verify, and supplement the theory; to show the relations and differences between theory and practice. 2. To teach measurement techniques. 3. To convince students that what they are taught in their lecture classes is real and useful. 4. To help make students tinkerers and make them used to asking ¿what if¿ questions.
