Annie Allbright is an eleven-year-old superhero. Every night when she goes to sleep, Annie travels to a magical world where dragons have tea parties with teddy bears, cobras play chess, and the fairy godmother is an urban legend that no one will talk about. Along with her constant companion, a giant rabbit named Grimsley, she gets to have the kinds of adventures she's always read about in stories. Middle school, on the other hand? That's not going very well. Annie might be a hero in Bibylonia, the world she visits in her dreams, but at school, she and her best friend Jay are the favorite targets of the biggest bullies in their class. In Bibylonia there's no problem she can't solve, but here at home Annie has never felt less in control. No matter how helpless she feels at school, at least Annie's always been able to escape into her dreams. But when a man called John Doe with the power to manipulate people's emotions begins terrorizing the citizens of Bibylonia, Annie discovers that the line between dreams and reality may not be as solid as she thought it was. In order to save both of her worlds from complete destruction AND survive sixth grade, Annie will have to figure out who she really is - the girl she is at home, or the hero she wants to be.

Sixth grade is finally over, and Annie is off to camp with her best friend Jay. After everything that happened last year, Annie's looking forward to a relaxing summer. A little swimming and hiking sounds like a nice break from standing up to bullies and, you know, saving the world. Unfortunately for Annie, it's not that simple. When they get to camp, Annie and Jay meet a girl named Ruth who's dealing with some pretty serious stuff at home. On top of that, there's something very strange happening in Bibylonia. After the Battle of the Meadow, everything seemed to return to normal, but now whenever Annie visits, she spends all her time traveling from settlement to settlement, putting things right. It's like...everything is unraveling, one village at a time. As Ruth's situation gets progressively worse, so does the situation in Bibylonia. Will Annie be able to solve the mystery AND help keep her new friend's life from falling apart? It's a pretty big job for a not-quite twelve-year-old girl, but as Annie has learned (the hard way), ordinary girls can do extraordinary things.
