This WHO reference has been updated in a new edition; it provides a standardised set of terms and definitions which facilitate national and international comparisons of data.
The 1973 WHO classification of bladder tumours anticipated a probable need for eventual revision of the criteria for diagnosing papillary and flat bladder neoplasia. A workshop sponsored by the WHO consisting of pathologists, urologists, cytologists, oncologists and basic scientists interested in bladder tumours addressed this subject, and after a follow- -up meeting sponsored by the International Society of Urological Pathology, the classification and terminology used in this text were agreed upon. A major change is in the introduction of a new category: papillary urothelial neoplasm of low malignant potential. Many of the tumours previously designated as papillary transitional cell carcinoma, grade I now fall into that category. Another major change is in the designation of flat lesions, and this includes a definition of carcinoma in situ. Furthermore, a number of variant forms of urothelials carcinomas are included as well as new entities not recognized when the 1st edition was issued.
Retaining the same scope as the first edition, this new edition deals with the classification and characteristics of tumours and tumour-like lesions. It is extensively illustrated with photomicrographs in colour, together with clinical radiographs and photographs of operation specimens to show the distinctive features of various lesions.
The second edition of this manual is a collaborative effort of pathologists from nine countries. The individual categories have been described in more detail, and a number of new entities have been included, such as placental site trophoblastic tumours and cystic granulosa cell tumour of infancy.

An updated and revised list of brain tumour classifications, accompanied by colour photomicrographs. Several new tumour entities have been added, including the pleomorphic xanthoastrocytoma and the central neurocytoma. The list of histological variants has also been expanded.
This book includes more clinical aspects and concentrates on cancer and precancer of the oral mucosa rather than attempting to cover all benign and malignant tumours of the oral and oropharyngeal tissue.
The second edition of this work, first published in 1981, is a collaborative effort of pathologists from six countries. Renal adenomas are presented in more detail, and several new tumour-like lesions are included, such as metanephric adenoma, chromophobe carcinoma and renal medullary carcinoma.
This second edition updates the "WHO Classification of Endocrine Tumours" proposed in 1980 and incorporates many new tumour entities and pertinent concepts that have developed since that time.
