I Sachsen i 1681 bliver den 15-årige Anna Voigt anklaget for at have dræbt sit nyfødte barn.
Written during the Constitutional Convention, The Constitution of the United States is the foundational document of American government. Comprising the first ten amendments to the United States Constitution, The United States Bill of Rights was written following extensive debate between Federalists and Anti-Federalists during the Constitutional Convention. Together, they are two of the most influential texts in the history of democracy.

Frans Hals is one of the most important portrait painters of all time. Like Rembrandt, the famous Dutch Baroque master's striking portraits of the bourgeoisie and social outsiders are distinguished by their extraordinary vividness and accurate depiction. His sketch-like paintings, executed with bold brushstrokes, had a decisive influence on modernist painting. This comprehensive publication coincides with the first major survey exhibition of Hals' oeuvre in more than thirty years. FRANS HALS (1582/84-1666) was born in Antwerp, the son of a cloth merchant. In 1610 he was accepted into the Haarlem Guild of St. Luke. Hals created hundreds of genre paintings, individual, and group portraits and enjoyed great public prestige. Despite his fame during his lifetime, it was not until the nineteenth century that he was enthusiastically rediscovered by the Impressionists and Realists.
1792. British naval lieutenant George Vancouver arrives in the Pacific northwest on a voyage of exploration. He has orders to take possession of Nootka Sound, but finds the Spanish, led by Juan Francisco de la Bodega y Quadra, already there and unwilling to leave. Quadra and Vancouver negotiate their countries' claims, manoeuvre for advantage, and seek the support of Maquinna, chief of the Mowachaht, who recognizes the threat posed by all the newcomers to his territory. While the commanders seek a solution, their crews fraternize and wait. When a young man is killed on shore, Spanish and British alike blame the natives and demand revenge. The man's commander, though, refuses to retaliate without proof. He investigates, and uncovers a web of secrets, lies, and exploitation - and the identity of the killer. How Quadra and Vancouver respond to their standoff, and the truth they both discover about the murder, could ignite into conflict in the Pacific northwest - or outright war between the world's two most powerful empires.

In 1775, Paul Revere of Boston made his now-famous horseback ride warning colonists of an impending attack by the British. This event went largely unnoticed in history until Longfellow celebrated it in a poem in 1861. So who was Paul Revere? In addition to being an American patriot, he was a skilled silversmith and made false teeth from hippo tusks! This biography, with black-and-white illustrations throughout, brings to life Paul Revere's thrilling ride as well as the personal side of the man and the exciting times in which he lived.
Discusses how and why American colonists protested high taxes from Great Britain by dumping tea in Boston Harbor in 1773, as well as the ramifications of their actions.
