"Examines resistance literatures from Guyana - a British exploitation colony - and Palestine - a settler-colony - at a specific historical moment, by contesting the provinciality and Eurocentric focus of comparative literature, delivering the discipline's universal objectives, and expanding the discipline's practice by comparing two literatures and histories from the Global South. The author argues that the emergence of resistance poetry in both countries at this historical juncture forms part of the resistance to Empire during decolonization, linking the formerly colonized and the presently colonized people in the Global South"--

Fidel Castro demonstrates here his intellectual genius and his lifelong commitment to the Cuban revolution as well as his observations about events elsewhere in the world"--

Truman. Told as a fable, in which the leaders of the movement are visited by the ghosts of Michael Collins and Gandhi, this book showcases an important and often overlooked moment in American history and a historical touchstone for the Puerto Rican independence movement.

From his provincial origins in the small northern Mexico town of Múzquiz, Coahuila, to his meteoric rise in Manhattan's East Village art scene, to having achieved international standing at the time of his early death at forty-seven, Julio Galán was radically transgressive. The artist extended contemporary Mexican painting beyond the cultural criticism of Neo-Mexicanism (neomexicanismo), redefining Mexican identity as gender-expansive in his art. Galán combined gender-fluid imagery, his performative persona, queer self-representation, and cross-cultural visual and textual references to create large-scale, layered, dialogical visual puzzles. An artist ahead of his time, Galán's content and imagery is relevant to contemporary LGBTQ+ social movements.Replete with full-color reproductions of Galán's artwork and photographic material, Teresa Eckmann's book serves as the first English-language monograph on the artist's life and work. Anyone interested in art in Mexico and Latin America will find this book an indispensable addition to their library, and it will be a core book on the study of this artist for decades to come.
The first anthology of its kind, I Am of the Tribe of Judah: Poems from Jewish Latin America brings together poetry from the Mexican border to the tip of South America. Originally written in Spanish, Portuguese, Yiddish, Ladino, Casteidish, and Hebrew, these poems have been translated into English, many for the first time, by a group of prize-winning translators. This multilingual collection looks at the tradition across more than five hundred years, featuring poems that exalt being Jewish, whether Ashkenazi or Sephardic, and poems that express humor and satire. Conversely, there are poems in response to anti-Semitism and poems of exile, of protest, and of the Holocaust. In a different mode, there are wondrous poems on mysticism and Kabbalah. The book includes an insightful introduction and historical background by world-renowned literary and social critic Ilan Stavans, professor at Amherst College.
Examines twentieth-century Mexican literature and philosophy within the broad panorama of Latin American and European existentialisms.

a poem is a house by linda ravenswood is a collection of poems to "remind you that you are history, embodied, a living tapestry of everyone who ever was and all they said and forgot and cherished. And wonder how the severed goat's head in the tree still sings-a reminder of what cannot be explained-even with all that history, cruelty, and beauty" (Brian Sonia Wallace, West Hollywood City Poet Laureate).
