This book is based on a mixed-method, longitudinal study of the transmission, production, and reception of Spanish- and Portuguese-language television in four global cities with expanding Latinx diasporic populations. The author tracks and analyzes the production practices of Spanish-language broadcasters, the highlights of news and cultural affairs coverage, changes in the shooting locations and sociocultural discourses of telenovelas (both imported from Latin America and domestically produced), the presence of SLTV in the national political sphere, and the modes of media access and opinions of over 400 viewers in Detroit, Los Angeles, Miami, and Madrid. The possibilities created by SLTV and PLTV for achieving a sense of enfranchisement are explored. Intended for a general, as well as academic reading audience.
In the Walt Whitman's and Federico García Lorca's tradition of celebratory poems to New York City, ÑUÓRK! is a poetry book that celebrates the city of New York and its people. In it, the city, addressed by the poet-narrator, is in itself a language construction, the clash of English and Spanish embodied in the Latin American immigrant experience, as well as the intermingling of the literary heritages of both languages, from Rubén Darío and José Kozer to William Carlos Williams and Susan Howe, among others.

"Sol Reyes has had a rough year. After a series of workplace incidents at her university lab culminates in a plagiarism accusation, Sol is put on probation. Dutiful visits to her homophobic father aren't helping her mental health, and she finds her nightly glass of wine becoming more of an all-day-and-all-bottle-event. Her wife, Alice Song, is far more optimistic. After all, the two finally managed to buy a house in the beautiful, gated community of Maneless Grove. However, the neighbors are a little too friendly in Sol's opinion. She has no interest in the pushy Homeowners Association, their bizarrely detailed contract, or their never-ending microaggressions. ... Suddenly, a number of strange occurrences--doors and stairs disappearing, roots growing inside the house--cause Sol to wonder if her social paranoia isn't built on something more sinister"--

"Each Saturday night, Marisol's entire family comes together to salsa! Everyone--Mami and Papi, primos, tâias, and even abuelo--twirls and sways to the catchy rhythm. Though, with a little help from Papi, maybe Mari will learn to feel the beat of the instruments from around the world and find herself in the flow."--

"Luis Miranda arrived in New York City from Puerto Rico in 1974 to study psychology at NYU, but he soon found himself drawn to community action, eventually working for the Department of Employment, the Board of Education, and the nonprofit Aspira, among many other organizations. In the 1980s he was a special advisor for Hispanic Affairs to Mayor Ed Koch, and he continued to serve in key roles for the Dinkins and Giuliani administrations. In 1990 Miranda became the founding President of the Hispanic Federation, one of the nation's leading Latino nonprofits. In 2000, he founded the Amber Charter School in East Harlem. As a founding partner of the MirRam Group, Miranda has consulted on a number of successful political campaigns, including the Senatorial campaigns of Hilary Clinton, Chuck Schumer, and Kirsten Gillibrand. The list of roles and positions is practically endless, but, more simply put, there is no one on the Latino, New York City, and national political scene who has the breadth of experience, passion, understanding, and storytelling charm of Luis Miranda. In "Relentless," he shares the poignant narrative of his life and career-from his early days as a radically-minded Puerto Rican activist to his decades of practical political advising and problem-solving. We experience the thrill of the ascendency of Luis's son Lin-Manuel's "Hamilton" followed several years later by the devastation of Hurricane Maria. Amid the triumphs, challenges, and ongoing hard work, Miranda examines what it all tells us about our ever-changing politics, demographics, and society"--

Dieagnosis is a collection of poetry based on a journey of self-discovery, working through the traumas and the struggles of being a Gay Latino in an impacted religious society. The author explores his personal development through every challenge, where he learned valuable lessons of never giving up and not allowing anyone to take away his power. He testifies to the experience of diminishing his own power by giving it away to bullies, past relationships, and even to his own mind. He references whispers, darkness, and the void because he is a survivor of suicide. This collection of poetry also contains Checkpoints, which are pages where he interacts with readers to acknowledge the consent that was taken. He also has a companion workbook entitled Beacon to provide readers with extra support in their own mental wellness development. Content Warning: mentions of suicide, self-harm, and physical and sexual abuse.
This was my journey leaving home at age twenty-three up until this current time at age sixty-one, writing this book. All that I could bring to California was my faith in God, a few dollars, my clothes, and a deeper calling in my life! How could I walk away and leave everyone behind in Connecticut like Abraham did? Was I right or wrong? Could I make it, or would I fail? My book will challenge you to see further than the natural things that you can imagine.Little should not be determined as not enough in your hands but revealed as sufficient, to begin with as I learned to steward it well, to grow exponentially into much more in my life for his glory! My story tells of the traps of the enemy, jumping over hurdles, healing, restoration, and victories in God if we just obey his Word and apply it to our lives. This is not "a step as easy as one, two, and three, I'm all better now" book. You must have and need the Holy Spirit to guide you into all truth (John 16:13-15). I believe in my heart that your life will be challenged and changed. I'm being transparent so that you or someone you may know can walk in the greater person of your calling without the fear and reservation of what the world thinks about your epistle life versus what God has mandated us to do!

New York Times bestselling author Xochitl Gonzalez delivers a mesmerizing novel about a first-generation Ivy League student who uncovers the genius work of a female artist decades after her suspicious deathWho gets to leave a legacy?1985. Anita de Monte, a rising star in the art world, is found dead in New York City; her tragic death is the talk of the town. Until it isn't. On College Hill, surrounded by progeny of film producers, C-Suite executives, and international art-dealers, most of whom float through life knowing that their futures are secured, Raquel feels herself an outsider. Students of color, like Raquel, are the minority there, and the pressure to work twice as hard for the same opportunities is no secret. But when Raquel becomes romantically involved with a well-connected older art student, she finds herself unexpectedly rising up the social ranks. As she attempts to straddle both worlds, she stumbles upon Anita's story, raising questions about the dynamics of her own relationship, which eerily mirrors that of the forgotten artist.Moving back and forth through time and told from the perspectives of both women, Anita de Monte Laughs Last, is a propulsive, witty examination of power, love, and art, daring to ask who gets to be remembered and who is left behind in the rarefied world of the elite.
