Emerging from a period of uncertainty, Plan B outlines an approach that places flexibility and creative "intra-actions" at its core. Plan B explores possible means of transcending established conventions and negotiating unforeseen situations. It serves as an invitation to explore the transformative power that resonates within the intra-sections in art and beyond, emphasizing how subtle shifts can trigger a positive "intra-action" across such varied fields as literature, philosophy and physics. Plan B offers a fresh perspective that fosters our creativity by encouraging us to perceive the world from novel angles and actively shape positive change. Presented in both Slovak and English, Plan B is an invitation to an intellectual celebration where the realms of knowledge and creativity converge. Enriched with a diversity of European artistic concepts and illustrations, the book will delight and fascinate all who enjoy reading and exploring. Felicitas Thun Hohenstein: PLAN B: is: PLAN A - is: an inspiring and groundbreaking work that opens up new horizons with an intra-disciplinary and intra-active approach to our world and insightfully demonstrates how the creative power of thought and action can be utilized in an ever-changing context. This book is a much-needed guide to reshaping our thinking and action, insofar as art and sciences are not merely representative and imitative endeavours, but open-ended processes that leave neither the objects involved nor the subjects unchanged and which possess profound commonalities.
From a writer who "dazzles with prose strength and style" (Michael Koryta), Bluff takes us deep inside the fraught and fascinating world of a modern magician who becomes obsessed with magic's dark twin-the underworld of the card cheat

"Art & Life: The Story of Samuel Bak traces the development of a child prodigy deeply shaped by the catastrophic events of the Shoah, from his early artistic influences to his years in the Vilna Ghetto and Landsberg DP Camp, his formal training in Israel and Paris, and his fruitful art career in Rome, New York, Switzerland, and Boston. Augmenting the rich existing literature on Bak, Art & Life explores-in thoughtful prose and through reproductions of both iconic and rarely seen work created between 1942 and 2022-how he navigated the prevailing art trends of the mid-twentieth century in search of his own pictorial language. It considers the personal, historical, and artistic currents that led Bak, now aged 90, to create an astonishing body of work that bears witness to cataclysmic events, embodies our common humanity of suffering and hope, and poses questions about the repair of the world"--

"American Whitelash is indispensable. Really. It is." - Ibram X. Kendi, author of How to Be an AntiracistFrom a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, a shocking investigation into the cyclical pattern of violence that has marred racial progress in AmericaIn 2008, Barack Obama's historic victory was heralded as a turning point for the USA. And so it would be - just not in the way that most Americans hoped. The election of the nation's first Black president fanned long-burning embers of white supremacy, igniting a new and frightening phase in a continuous historical cycle of racial progress and white backlash. In American Whitelash, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and bestselling author Wesley Lowery charts the return of this blood-stained trend, showing how the forces of white power retaliated against Obama's victory - and both profited from, and helped to propel, the rise of Donald Trump. Drawing on gripping first-hand reporting, he investigates four incidents of white violence since 2008: the killing of an Ecuadorian immigrant in a working-class town in Long Island, a mass shooting at a Sikh temple in Wisconsin, an attack on a Jewish Community Center in Kansas City, and the murder of Oscar Grant, the first in an unrelenting series of police shootings that would lead to the largest sustained protest movement in the US since the Civil Rights era.Interweaving deep historical analysis with interviews with both victims and perpetrators of violence, Lowery uncovers how this vicious cycle is entering into ever more perilous territory, and how the country still might find a route of escape.
This is the history of the institutions and individuals who have managed the global economy, from the World Monetary and Economic Conference in the wake of the Great Depression to the present, as leading nations tackle the fallout from Covid-19 and the threats of inflation, food security and climate change. Since the Second World War, organisations created at Bretton Woods - the International Monetary Fund and the International Bank of Reconstruction and Development - and afterwards - the General Agreement on Trade and Tariffs and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development - have left an indelible mark on our contemporary world.Martin Daunton examines the swings of the pendulum over ninety years between the forces of democracy, national determination and globalization. He shows that the structures of economic government have been overwhelmingly shaped by 'first world' powers, often to the dismay of developing countries. He argues that whilst structures cannot be separated from the politics of and between the biggest economies, future global recovery rests on the reduction of inequality and that multilateral institutions are fundamental in fostering inclusive growth.
