Hierbei soll zunächst der Ablauf der Revolten geschildert werden, um daraufhin auf die Ursachen und die Folgen der Aufstände einzugehen. Ziel dieser Untersuchung ist es, anhand der vorliegenden Literatur, den Impakt zu ermitteln, den die Rebellionen auf die Abolitionsbewegung im Großbritannien des 19. Jahrhunderts hatten. Da sich die Historiker nicht einig sind, in welchem Maß die Aufstände einen Beitrag zur Abschaffung der Sklaverei geleistet haben, sollen außerdem unterschiedliche Perspektiven auf die Thematik kurz angesprochen werden. Auch weitere Forschungsdebatten bezüglich der beiden Rebellionen sollen hier näher betrachtet werden. In den letzten zwei Jahrzehnten hat sich die Forschung intensiv mit der britischen Karibik auseinandergesetzt, wobei die Geschichte dieser Region in einen größeren Kontext gesetzt wurde. Infolgedessen wird diese Geschichte oft im Zusammenhang mit der atlantischen Geschichte und der des britischen Weltreichs betrachtet. Bei Jamaika handelt es sich um die anglophone Westindische Insel, über die in den letzten Jahrzehnten am meisten geschrieben wurde. Im 17. Jahrhundert fielen die karibischen Inseln Barbados und Jamaika, infolge des Wettrennens der europäischen Großmächte, in den Besitz der Engländer. Die beiden Kolonien zählten neben den Leeward Inseln zu den bedeutendsten Besitztümern des britischen Weltreichs. Im Verlaufe des 18. Jahrhunderts äußerte sich der atlantische Sklavenhandel als der Ursprung des Wohlstands und politischen Erfolges der Briten. Obschon dieser im Jahre 1807 endete, blieb die Sklaverei im britischen Weltreich noch fast drei Jahrzehnte lang bestehen. Die anglophonen Westindischen Inseln erfuhren zur Zeit der britischen Herrschaft mehrere Sklavenaufstände. Die von Barbados (1816), Demerara (1823) und Jamaika (1831) zählen zu den drei größten Sklavenrebellionen in der Geschichte der ¿Neuen Welt¿.

Il argumente que bien que les TIC aient facilité le progrès dans certains domaines de la stratégie culturelle jamaïcaine, ils ont néanmoins contribué à des difficultés qui, d¿une manière ou d¿une autre, ont empêché la réussite de cette stratégie.L¿¿uvre démontre comment les TIC ont été utile aux certains aspects de cette stratégie qui figure dans la politique culturelle du pays de 2003, notamment dans le secteur de la musique culturelle (précisément le reggae et la dance hall) dans la promotion du commerce social ; dans le secteur de la mode ; dans l¿amélioration dans le travail du Ministère ; et dans la promotion de la visibilité et l¿accès à l¿expression culturelle de la Jamaïque. Dans ce cadre, on présente des arguments valides pour l¿emploi continu des TIC dans le secteur culturel du pays. Pourtant, de l¿autre côté, on examine comment les TIC ont affecté négativement ce domaine, en soulignant les problèmes clés du piratage numérique, de l¿incapacité d¿accéder les TICs à tous les niveaux, et de la promotion des autres cultures étrangères dominantes.Finalement, l¿auteur explique que la stratégie culturelle du pays n¿a pas exploité suffisamment le potentiel des TIC afin de réaliser ces objectives, et donc fait quelques recommandations à cette fin.

The first biography of JR Ralph Casimir (1898-1986), a Pan-Africanist and poet from the Caribbean island of Dominica. This biography, lovingly written by his grand-daughter, explores his political and personal life. In particular it examines his involvement with Marcus Garvey's Universal Negro Improvement Association (UNIA) of which he was a founding member, organiser and agent for Garvey's Black Star Line. He committed his life to opposing the discrimination woven in to the British colonial system.
