This book celebrates Juergen Teller's long-term collaboration with creative director Dennis Freedman for W magazine and later for luxury department store Barneys in New York. Between 1999 and 2016 the pair created a sweep of iconic series, all captured in Teller's trademark realistic style. In his photographs for W, Teller consistently went against the grain, resisting large-budget shoots and seeking out authentic, anti-commercial narratives and pared-down locations-as in his unforgettable first editorial in 1999 which features Stephanie Seymour, Shalom Harlow and Naomi Campbell (among other supermodels) as office workers at the magazine. Seen as a whole, Teller's W commissions reveal the evolution of his creative freedom, from shooting Haute Couture clients, Kate Moss at the Monaco Grand Prix and Tilda Swinton as a socialite collector, to portraits of William Eggleston and Roni Horn.Teller and Freedman's work for Barneys catalogues between 2011 and 2016 epitomizes their risk-taking approach in unusual fashion locations such as Belgrade, Panama City and Tirana. The resulting images show playful juxtapositions and unexpected scenarios, as models and actors explore their environments in comic poses, producing a kind of non-conformist advertising. Throughout Fashion Photography for America 1999-2016 Teller has photographed original W magazines and Barneys catalogues from his archives, a low-fi method that emphasizes the physical process of looking over his past work and allows us to share in the surprises of his retrospection.
This revised and expanded edition of Juergen Teller's bestselling Handbags features a careful selection of images from the original 2019 book, alongside his favorite photographs made since. As before, Teller's advertising campaigns for distinguished brands such as Coach, Dolce & Gabbana, Loewe, Saint Laurent and Vivienne Westwood are shown with images of handbags deftly styled for fashion editorials-all worn by celebrities and models or photographed as still-life objects. Teller acknowledges the visible shift towards celebrity endorsement in recent years, which has led to exciting new encounters with a multitude of actors, musicians, artists, writers and filmmakers. In his unmistakable subversive, raw style, Teller presents the ultimate fashion accessory as an everyday item rather than as a glamorized commodity, often in surprising contexts (a handbag perched atop supermarket vegetables) or with humorous intent (a bag sitting on a taxidermy crocodile). This time around, More Handbags has the compact size of a handbag itself, making it more accessible and tactile-and aptly more affordable for all of us who might not be able to buy the real thing.

In the Summer of 1981, an international assortment of young people gathered at a public park on the banks of the Missouri River just outside Kansas City. In ten days, they built a 16x24-foot raft from assorted lumber, a telephone pole and thirty-two 55-gallon oil drums. Propelled only by the river current and four 10-foot-long deck-mounted oars, in two months the crew of the “Eulenspiegel" floated 1,420 miles down the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers to New Orleans. This documentary monograph is the story of that walking-pace journey down the backbone of America.
Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love were notorious for representing the opposite of “Family Values.” To reframe their notoriety, they consented to a rare photoshoot for Spin magazine with their newborn, Frances Bean. Only 5 images were originally published; the rest of the photoshoot is seen here for the first time."Now the entire family was in bed together, and Hansen remembers how beautiful it was to see everyone in sync. “They just were loving Frances. It was really so apparent,” she said. “It was really about her. They were oblivious to us in a lot of cases, anytime they had the baby.”' -- Guzman Interview in CNN "Three decades later, Hansen and Peacock are revisiting this fabled shoot for the first time in their new book, Family Values (powerHouse Books), an intimate chronicle of a young couple driven by passion and love that eschewed the trappings of fame and celebrity for truth and art. Through Guzman’s portraits, we see the last of a fading breed: the true rock star who spoke for outsiders, misfits and radicals who wanted nothing more than to live by their own rules." -- AnOtherWith an ineffable ability to connect with people through his music, Kurt Cobain was charismatic and full of pathos, something of a lost boy poet struggling against his personal demons while holding the world in thrall. And yet in the midst of his struggles with success, fame, fortune, drugs, and the wounds of a traumatic childhood, he managed in his brief adulthood to get married to Courtney Love—who of course had her own accomplishments as an electrifying and unrestrained lead singer and lyricist. The couple had already emerged as a cultural touchstone when their baby, Frances Bean, was born in 1992. Photographers Guzman captured, amidst toys and pajamas, the sweetness, humor, irony and the simple happiness of a new mom and dad at home with their baby girl. Family Values is a photography book presenting approximately 90 images featuring Kurt, Courtney, and their baby Frances, one morning in their modest Hollywood home selected from a photoshoot that Guzman did for Spin magazine in 1992. Only five photographs from the shoot were published in the magazine at the time, including the cover. Another appeared in Rolling Stone at the time of Kurt Cobain’s death. In Spin, the photos originally accompanied an interview by Jonathan Poneman, which Guzman plans to license to reprint in the book. The book will also include a memoir of the photo shoot written by Guzman and an introduction by curator and music journalist Michael Azerrad. Family Values is a photographic assignment that revealed two famous rock stars who during one brief moment transcended the magnifying glass of fame and were revealed, amidst all the chaos, as being just a mom and dad

Tokio - Moskau - Brunnen Der Fotograf Yves Suter (geb. T okyo-Moscow-Brunnen The photographer Yves Suter (b. Brunnen, 1983; lives and works in Zurich) is a global citizen and for years shuttled between Brunnen, a village in the Swiss Alps, and the metropolitan centers of Tokyo and Moscow. Making friends wherever he went, he delved into the subcultures of the skateboarding and snowboarding scenes, and over the past twenty-five years, he has created unadorned and raw urban portraits that eschew familiar cliche¿s. Playing with time, coincidence, and ephemerality, his snapshot-like photographs document the life in a place and its people, their dreams and communities. The three-part publication Indefinite Album presents Suter's photographs from 1997 to the present. The design of the volumes is a nod to the photobook traditions of the three countries. With texts by the writer Rainer Brenner and the artist.
Looking at Mexico / Mexico Looks Back ist Sternburgs dritte Monografie. Mexico: A Portrait The writer, photographer, and philosopher Janet Sternburg (b. Boston, 1943; lives and works in Los Angeles and San Miguel de Allende) looks back at the land that spawned her love for photography; twenty-three years ago, she took her first photos in Mexico. In her new photo series, Sternburg looks at Mexico using low-tech cameras to create a poetic image of the country's multifaceted culture. In 2022, Sternburg met Jose Alberto Romero Romano, a Mexican physical therapist. Accepting her invitation, both tell their stories of Mexican culture in the book. In addition to a deep cultural exchange, this book tells a story of two people with different backgrounds and memories seeking and finding a place of encounter through photography. Looking at Mexico / Mexico Looks Back is Sternburg's third monograph.
Where (Hi)stories Are Preserved In her most recent works Andrea Wilmsen (b. near Düsseldorf 1970; lives and works in Berlin) directs her photographic perspective to the exhibition spaces and parts of museums that are inaccessible to the public. The interplay between fragmentary views and elaborately composed close-up shots lets the photographer outline remarkable portraits of renowned museums all over the world. Alice in the Field -the title is a nod to Lewis Carroll's brilliant heroine, a key source of inspiration-gathers surrealistic impressions from behind the scenes at the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago. This multifaceted panorama of one of North America's leading research museums blends photographic documentation with creative narration. Wilmsen's photographs offer unusual insights into the collection of around forty million artifacts and specimens and introduces selected scholars. The portraits are complemented by archival images and photographs from the collection.
Sophio Medoidze's (b. Tbilisi, then USSR, 1978; lives and works in London) practice encompasses film, photography, writing, and sculpture and explores the poetic potential of uncertainty. Her work has been shown at Tate Modern, the Fondation Vincent van Gogh Arles, the Serpentine Gallery, the Close Up Film Centre, Kunstmuseum Luzern, and the Whitechapel Gallery, amongst others. For a time she worked anonymously as part of the Clara Emigrand collective, disseminating her work outside the gallery context. Medoidze explores the relationship between rural and urban, languages and translations, as well as gender politics and dynamics. Her works often emerge from writing and unfold as installations incorporating moving image, sculpture, and text. The publication Bastard Sun brings together a collection of photographs taken after the civil unrest in Georgia in the 1990s with short texts written over the subsequent visits to Georgia, together with a collection of twelve short stories. Medoidze's writing provides nuanced and at times humorous reflections on personal and political change. Bastard Sun is co-published with KONA BOOKS, a Tbilisi-based publishing house that focuses on contemporary visual and interdisciplinary projects.

Phoenix, Arizona is a modern, pleasant, and exciting city that is increasingly a destination location for its climate and amenities. However, like most major cities in the United States, Phoenix has an inner city that few are aware of or want to know about. This part of the city is run down, with neglected, abandoned homes and buildings. Crime is common, and people retreat into houses with gates, fences, and bars on the windows, hoping to maintain safety and privacy with "No Trespassing" signs on their front doors. There are homeless and others in distress, wandering the streets with nowhere to go. Restaurants and stores struggle to stay afloat and serve the needs of those in the area. This book of photos reveals the stark truth of the forgotten city of Phoenix-and the people who deserve to be noticed, respected, and seen.
