Human communication involves more than mere linguistic expressions or the verbal messages they share in the interactions. Nonverbal behaviors not only have a critical impact on verbal ones but also may even substitute them. The sociopragmatic context and sociopragmatic competence play a significant role in the processes of using, studying, interpreting, and analyzing nonverbal cues, especially in intercultural communication. There has been some uncertainty as to whether or not nonverbal cues influence intercultural communication, particularly among refugees, in addition to the impact of sociopragmatic contextual variables such as age, gender, ethnicity, and religion on the process of communication. This study's content originates from the diverse culture-based difficulties and challenges refugees face in the communication process among themselves and with the host community or humanitarian agencies. Thus, it recommends cooperating, nationally and internationally, to establish peace and security to reduce the number of refugees and decrease their suffering. Eventually, it suggests holding international, regional, and national scientific conferences to study the temporary and future consequences of refugeeism on humanity.

The increased intercultural contacts and encounters implies the intercultural competence and foreign language competency for individuals to study, to work and to live effectively in the culturally diverse and digitally-connected global communities. This also heightened the needs for foreign language programs in universities and colleges to improve students' intercultural competence and language aptitude, which have become one of the objectives of foreign language programs. Foreign language teaching and learning needs to be focusing on both language aptitude and intercultural competence. As two important factors affecting students' foreign language learning, intercultural competence and language learning motivation have been increasingly stressed in the field of second language acquisition. However, there are few scholars who investigate the intercultural competence from the perspective of language learning motivation. The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between English language learners' intercultural competence, their attitudes towards the language, and their motivation patterns and motivation intensity of learning English. This correlational study is expected to provide statistical evidences for research on intercultural competence from perspective of language learning motivation, and is also hoped to shed light on foreign language teaching and research.

This book brings together 18 theoretical and empirical chapters that analyse the role of emotion (expression, perception, processing) and identity (notions and representations, construction, conflict) in the process of learning a second language. Studies on the differences in emotionality between L1 and L2 suggest that in L2 there is an alteration that, in many cases, manifests itself as a decrease in the affective load, which can lead to a certain indifference to the emotional content transmitted and to a lesser involvement in communication. It is also known that emotion plays a fundamental role in the construction of identity in a second language in the shaping of the self that feels and communicates and in the ability to cope with the learning process.Most of the studies have focused on the understanding of these issues in balanced bilingual speakers, but there is little evidence on their functioning in speakers with other degrees of proficiency (the case of second language learners) and on their role in the learning process. Better understanding this question is fundamental for the improvement of everything related to second language acquisition. We need new and innovative approaches that lead to more effective programs, increased interest in language learning and the consolidation of multilingual societies.
