"In this comprehensive and vibrant poetry anthology, author and poet Kwame Alexander curates a collection of contemporary anthems at turns tender and piercing and deeply inspiring throughout. Featuring work from well-loved poets such as Rita Dove, Jericho Brown, Warsan Shire, Ross Gay, Tracy K. Smith, Terrance Hayes, Morgan Parker, and Nikki Giovanni, This Is the Honey is a rich and abundant offering of language from the poets giving voice to generations of resilient joy, "each incantation," as Mahogany L. Browne puts it in her titular poem, is "a jubilee of a people dreaming wildly." This essential collection, in the tradition of Dudley Randall's The Black Poets and E. Ethelbert Miller's In Search of Color Everywhere, contains poems exploring joy, love, origin, race, resistance, and praise. Jacqueline A.Trimble likens "Black woman joy" to indigo, tassels, foxes, and peacock plumes. Tyree Daye, Nate Marshall, and Elizabeth Acevedo reflect on the meaning of "home" through food, from Cuban rice and beans to fried chicken gizzards. Clint Smith and Cameron Awkward-Rich enfold us in their intimate musings on love and devotion."--
100 of the most moving and inspiring poems of the last 200 years from around the world, a collection that will comfort and enthrall anyone trapped by grief or loneliness, selected by the award-winning, best-selling, and beloved author of How to Read a PoemImplicit in poetry is the idea that we are enriched by heartbreaks, by the recognition and understanding of suffering?not just our own suffering but also the pain of others. We are not so much diminished as enlarged by grief, by our refusal to vanish, or to let others vanish, without leaving a record. And poets are people who are determined to leave a trace in words, to transform oceanic depths of feeling into art that speaks to others. In 100 Poems to Break Your Heart, poet and advocate Edward Hirsch selects 100 poems, from the nineteenth century to the present, and illuminates them, unpacking context and references to help the reader fully experience the range of emotion and wisdom within these poems. For anyone trying to process grief, loneliness, or fear, this collection of poetry will be your guide in trying times.

ABOUT THE AWARD--The Northwind Writing Award, sponsored by Raw Earth Ink and facilitated by tara caribou, was created to shine light on little known yet exceptional writers across the United States.--The award was granted by process of anonymous scoring by a panel of judges. The judges had no way of knowing who the authors are, so without any bias they were able to score impartially. Overall we looked for writing which stirs emotion, paints vivid imagery, is high-caliber or underappreciated, captures our attention, and lastly, is memorable.--This year's anthology features the winners in Non-fiction: Amanda Trout, Angela Townsend, Kathryn O'Day, Kaci Skiles Laws, and Tulip Chowdhury; in Prose Poetry: Braeden Michaels, Rachael Ikins, and Amanda Trout; in Poetry: J.R. Woods, Mose Graves, Adele Evershed, Tohm Bakelas, Suzette Bishop, Beth Kanell, Robert Birkhofer, Nancy Dunlop, Michael Shoemaker, Aaron A Brauer, Braeden Michaels, Tess Lecuyer, Rachael Ikins, Vito del Valle, Diane Funston, and Carolyn Donnell; and in Fiction: Logan Medland, Wren Oldham, Jim Landwehr, Loretta Kemsley, and Val Valdez.

THE PATH OF BIRDS curates a collection of twenty-five new and rising International poets and features the intricate narrative verse of Araceli Esparza. These poets beckon you to emerge tooth and claw-to fly, crest, and ultimately soar. These poems are not mere avian observations but the lyrical voices of daily song. They answer editor Samantha Malay's egg question, "Do we all dream of flight in our briny cradles?" Inspired by our kinship to birds, these poems borrow their fledgling journey, meeting each day and its struggles with migrational persistence. With the reading, these poems will crack open and wake you to something new and alive. They honor the journey, the nesting of parent and child, the love of words in artfully feathered hearts. They ask, where can't our words take us if they have wings? Illustrated with beautiful, luscious, full-color artwork by artists Robin Moravec & Joha Bisone, this book is a unique gift for the creative soul.
Phenomenal Women: An Anthology of Selected Poems (65 pages, 2023) is a new volume of poetry based on the title theme resulting from a Poetry Contest devised by the leadership of the Laura (Riding) Jackson Foundation and the Indian River County Chapter of the American Association of University Women. The contest focus comprised writers of the Space and Treasure Coast and poetry selected from submissions of diverse forms and styles, ranging from almost Haiku-like offerings to longer narrative poems. There were three prize categories, as well as publication for twelve authors in a lively, and very engaging treatment of the theme, profiling, at times very specifically, significant women in personal or world-renowned histories as related by the contributors. The award-winning poems are featured in the beginning pages with a fine selection of accompanying poems to follow.
Most people know this South Taranaki district, between Harwera and Whanganui, if they know it at all, for Dalvanius, the P¿tea M¿ori Club and that seminal waiata, Poi E. They know it as a farming heartland or a rural backwater. In this anthology of poems, you will discover that there is so much more. This anthology includes an impressive array of both experienced poets and tyro. We are most excited by the new voices we have unearthed. Skeptics suggested that we would be "lucky to get twenty pages." Well, we got was over two hundred. There are gems, emeralds, and amethysts contained in these pages. Luxuriate with them! Ki ng¿ iwi o P¿tea me ng¿ rohe o waho, he mihi nui ki a matou. He mea whakamiharo koe, kua miharo koe, kua koa. This is your book, enjoy it!"This original book which recognises the amazing talent we have in Patea, Wait¿tara and Waverley is overdue, and I am proud to support it."Tory Whanau (Pakakohi and Ngaruahine), Mayor of Wellington

The zephyr of an urban city attracts people. For those who stay on, adapting to the hubbub, is inevitable. The cycle of experiences can be broadly shown in three phases. The Brahma Stage, is the learning phase which is full of zest and bliss, spiked with creativity. The Vishnu Stage, is the peak, where the feeling of knowing everything there is to learn, plateaus. The Maheshwara Stage, is when realities dawn upon the self as bitter they can be, in turn making one 'move on' and evolve. The vibrancy of experiences offered in a multi-faceted city, repeats this cycle for individuals. It rewards those who continue to stay, with undying grit and a street smart approach of a survivor.
